whats up with landry???

  • As a guy who started 17 college football games at QB, I can tell you that there is no QB that throws well from the prone position. Pressure impacts everyone. The key is to have a supporting cast that prevents that from happening.

  • Is it just me, But I seem to see a number of designed pass plays each Saturday, in other games, that creates confusion and allows receivers to get open easier. Quick crossing patterns, etc. that doesn't require a lot of time but effective. I believe most of our patterns require the receiver to read the defense. Could this be causing our "younger" receivers some problems with getting open quickly?

    These LJ critics forget the game Sam played in in Colorado, where he had several very bad passes. It happens.

    That's right. There was that one game when Sam was a freshman.

  • I don’t measure any college player by how he “might” play in the Pro's.

    Just a few of Landry’s accomplishments coming into this year:

    2011 Manning Award Finalist
    305 yards vs. the great Texas defense in just the first half last year.
    13 school passing records.
    Over 12,000 career passing yards
    2010 Sammy Baugh Award Winner
    Before the end of this season he will have the most career wins as an OU’s quarterback.

    Yep, just a terrible QB!

  • I have yet to hear anyone say Landry is a terrible qb. Who is saying that?

    He has started 4 years. Just exactly what do u expect a 4yr starter in this offemse to have? His stats are what they should be. But while you are trying to point out these stats as possibly a defense of his play, allow me to point out that he has also thrown 40+ ints. He can get all the accolade nominations all he wants. His play on the field is mediocre. I wish him luck but he isn't next level material IMO

  • OU has to be one of the worst places to play OB because of unrealistic fan expectations. Landry is about to become the career leader for victories by an OU QB.

    The QB that he is about to pass received death threats during his playing days from OU “fans” that did not think he was a good enough player.

    I have always thought that this is an interesting stat to be tracked in a team sport. I guess it just points out how people view the position.

    One of the most often posted criticism of Landry is that he will not be a good Pro QB.
    I do not believe a player’s projected or actual Pro career should effect how the player is viewed as a college athlete.

    There have been many excellent college players that for one reason or another did not have exemplary Pro careers. So what! They were still very good college players and should be appreciated as such.

    I also believe that the majority of OU fans do appreciate Landry’s and the team's accomplishments.

    Not that I disagree. I just think when you are the starting signal caller at a program such as ours you have to be aware of the lofty expectations. Along with that criticism will come along with it. I think that is something to prepare for during recruiting. You have to have thick skin in order to make it. I think the last thing any of us would want is a weak minded QB. I'm not the biggest LJ fan but I do applaud the fact that he has stayed the course and has kept his head. I imagine that the coaches have alot to do with his maturity. His play has been a bit suspect at times and with that I think he has to understand that he will be critisized for that. I feel he has handled it very well.
    Also, I think the coaches are trying to find ways to help him more in this offense this year than in the past. 32 and 28 pass attempts are very good for him. I think this will allow him to cut down on mistakes and to have better sucess this season than in the past. I hope we continue to feed this running game. In the A&M game he threw the 1int but if they were a better team it would have been 3. So its best that they continue to take the ball out of his hands when possible.

    I don't understand why stats are used to show how good Landry is. He's played a full season longer than any other qb under stoops! What do you expect???

    What you really have to compare are the AVG stats. Where does he rank in the following stats?

    Completion %
    Qb rating
    yards per completion
    Td/int ratio

    These are the only fair stats to compare.

  • I only get to watch on TV, and I'm not sure I can justify my opinions, but it's always seemed to me that pro coaching will develop his strengths into a pro QB. He's got a lot of the physical tools they look for. The specific thing that repeatedly frustrates me is his tendency to throw high. That's a matter of technique that should have been fixed by now.

    And I'm not going to comment on his Inner States in case he corrects his technique, finds me and beats me to death with thrown footballs.

  • Since a few of the posters brought up what Landry has done post Ryan Broyles here are the numbers:

    6 games:4(W) - 2(L)

    @Baylor 36-51/0 td 1 int/447 yds
    Iowa St 22-43/0 td 2 int/256 yds
    @OSU 27-50/0 td 2 int/250 yds
    @Insight Bowl vs Iowa 16-25/1 td 1 int/161yds
    @UTEP 21-36 2 td 0 int/222yds
    FAMU 19-28 2 td 1 int/252yds

    avg:23-39 59% comp 265yds 5 total TD's 7 total INT's

    This is not meant to be one way or another, just raw numbers since OU lost RB.
