whats up with landry???

  • His decision making at times makes absolutely no sense!!! Not good :-/

I really want him to be successful but if he can't make better decisions than that he'll never play on Sundays.

  • Umm, he will never play at the next level. He isn't even close to being good enough. He will get eaten up in the NFL because they will know he is scared of pressure and will be all over him.

  • You guys really have blinders on.You only see the bad. He's made several great throws tonight .Would you please give him credit for that.

Sure, he is great if no one is around him. But to play at the next level you have to be great all the time. You can't be scared of contact and you can't make such bad decisions as frequently as he does. he is basically playing against a really good highschool tonight and he is struggling.

That is all you have. I think you just proved my point.

I have something, your comment is ridiculous. Tom Bardy makes bad throws sometimes when pressured. Did you see 2x SB Champ Eli Manning the other night?

LJ is an excellent QB, not perfect, but very talented and clearly better this year than last. If the team around him were a little more consistent, his stats would be off the charts. Midway through the 3rd quarter of the 2nd game of the season, he has a 4/1 TD pass/INT ratio that would be 7/1 if Metoyer stays in bounds and Whaley and Stills don't drop sure TD's. Not to mention the Whaley chop block that cost him another big play.

He has as much better shot at a successful NFL career than any OU QB except SB. He is way more equipped than Heupel, White, Thompson.

  • I never said he was bad. I just don't understand some of the decisions he's made! It's sad because of how hard he has worked and how much he has improved.

And just cuz he might not play on Sundays doesn't mean he's bad. Heupel never played on Sundays. Neither did jason white!

Decisions like that lose games, period. I just don't understand what was behind those choices. He didn't even have much pressure on him.

  • As of his career so far, I agree. I think he still gets drafted high because he has all the tools. However, I don't see him consistant enough to be an NFL multi year starter. Even Colt McCoy got a chance.

Hopefully Jones and his work with receivers improves and he proves me wrong.

  • Needs a lot more work with the new guys and need to get a relationship developed with a TE, the passes to RB's in the flats and bubble screens are getting squashed by the likes of UTEP and F-A&M. He is 2-0 so far this season and looks better in the footwork department but confidence in all the wideouts is key here.

  • like LJ but he will not be a successful QB in the NFL bc he cant go through progressions and he is starting to get happy feet. He locks onto his primary way too often. Defenses in the NFL will chew him up.

that being said we just need him to be good at OU and wish him luck with the rest of his career. he is a great guy and deserves the success.

Right now he really only has one true go to guy until the others get more game reps and settle in. He does go through his progressions as evident in all the guys that caught balls or Stills would have been the only one with receptions, 9 guys caught balls tonight.

  • On game week nights. He needs to stay at the Team Hotel from Wednesday till Game Day.
    lol

  • several times tonite he threw to receivers that were covered when he had a receiver open with no one even covering him.His decision making should be better at this stage of his career. His feetwork is a lot better and he doesnt seem to get as riled. Arm is good , but he was a little off tonite. Is able to make throws few QB's can make. Like to see him run it ever now and then. big dropoff from him to Balke Bell.

  • I'm indifferent on Jones. I think he's good not great. But, I have never seen so many excuses get made for one player. I don't want to contribute to the bash Jones thread, I just get tired of all the excuses.

  • LJ had a couple of throws that I know he wishes he could do over. There are times when he makes a throw and hits a defender in the chest and you just don't understand why he threw the ball. When you are getting some pressue and you're moving in the pocket you are trying to find any receiver so you don't get tackled and take the sack. It isn't always easy to see all of the defenders. Every QB has made that mistake. Even the best QB's in the history of the game have made mistakes like that.

LJ didn't go 27 of 28 tonight but I thought he made some pretty throws and played fairly well.

  • My biggest concern were the semi-deep balls that were under thrown.. Seems he had a few of those.

    JStew

  • Landry's got a decent arm so some team will draft him. I predict 2d round. He needs a ton of work and OP is right, he probably doesn't have the mental toughness necessary to succeed in the NFL.

  • With all the game experience behind him these past few years coming into the season I felt that LJs decision making skills would be at a high level since the game would have slowed down for him in terms of reading defences, reading blitzes, and making proper check offs. We have a long way to go this season. I am not ready to raise the panic button just yet.

My measuring stick for evaluating the team and in this case LJ as well is usually after the Texas game. We have some real challenging games before we get to that point in time. Until then i will just enjoy watching the Sooner players in there crimson and creme giving their all out on the field. Go Sooners!

  • not sure if landry makes checks or not.. it seems to me that they go to the line of scriimage and they all look to the sidelines 4 the play 2 run....

I think Jones has a very good chance to make a nfl team and in time, will and could turn out to be a solud qb,, its all about what system he goes into and the players around him...

  • I am starting to think some of the LJ critics have a complete under-appreciation for the complexity of the QB position and I am also starting to think they never, ever watch any other QB's play. I have yet to see any QB that does not make a bone-headed play now and again. Additionally, it would appear to me that some of the newer WR's are having a hard time getting separation. That seems especially true of Metoyer. I feel like every pass that comes his way is in tight coverage and he just out-competes the coverage for the ball. The only WR that is getting consistent separation has been Stills.

I watch college football all day and it is a regular occurrence for me to take a moment of thanks that OU has LJ. BTW, did anybody catch that INT that Matt Barkley, Heisman favorite and #1 NFL projected NFL draft pick, threw yesterday? In case you missed it, it was as bad as anything I have seen from LJ over the last 4 seasons.

    NorthCalSooner

  • These LJ critics forget the game Sam played in in Colorado, where he had several very bad passes. It happens.

  • All bonehead plays are not created equal.
