sumlin tearing it up ........2013 recruiting

  • already 1 5star and 3 4star players.

atm to sec will entice many texas players . they will rival ut in top texas talent .

we could have done the same. us and atm in the sec would have isolated ut and killed osu

  • I do not hate A&M as much as TEXASS but I like Sumlin and have told the SEC throng on TBB that this will be a different squad and program with him. I really believe they win a couple of games they are not supposed to next year. I was one that thought their recruiting would suffer for going there but I was wrong.

  • I still don't know why so many around here think aTm in the SEC won't be a draw for top Texas talent.

OU in the SEC would smash recruiting. I hope it still happens

  • You might be right, but that's a pretty bold assumption considering Sumlin's Aggies have yet to play a down in the SEC.

If I recall, Sherman had several great recruiting classes during his first couple years in College Station.

We all know Sumlin will get the O rolling, but will he be able to put together an SEC caliber defense??? We'll see!!!

us , atm , mizzou , and ku to the sec would have been great .

ut would have been forced to eat the lhn and joined the big 10.

    osu......done tom turkey

  • Fact Check-how many of those were committed before Sumlin signed on?

Load up with big guys and stop the run and they will be ok, not going to be too many second half let downs with him.

How many do you think will want to play for A$M if they don't win a championship occasionally? So just going to the SEC will be enough to match the recruitng of ut? Do they ever have to produce a championship to do well in recruiting?

well there's one thing i am convinced of.......we would have won titles in that league especially with improved recruiting in texas and nation wide.

VNSooner- kindly do not cloud these guys fantasies with reality, okay?

Never mind that we're better off in the Big 12 and that the Big 12 once again out performed every other conference in their non-conference and Bown schedules....facts just don't matter.

Frizz, I'm with you. These highly touted 2013 freshmen are not going to beat LSU, Auburn and Bama. Let A$M have a couple of beat down years in the SEC West and their recruiting will be right where it always was. Ole Miss, Miss State and A$M will battle it out for the bottom three spots in the SEC West, while Mack is still getting the top kids in Texas.

In simple terms, Winning trumps Conference Affiliation.

I wouldn't be shocked if some of these kids look elsewhere by Feb 2013.

  • After the latest class signings, ESPN conducted a poll about why recruits chose the school that they had just signed with. Overwhelmingly, the head coach or the assistant coach who recruited them was the the # 1 reason they signed. Distance between their home and university was in the top three issues. Conference affiliation was at the bottom of the list.

  • And before they signed, the poll had conference affiliation in the top 3, usually #2. Funny how that works.

I guess I am a little lost here. aTm could not officially offer these 2013 kids until after signing day, and Sumlin was already there. What are the facts that I am missing? Were these kids already committed to verbal offers?

  • I am one that believes A & M will have a little better recruiting class year in and year out b/c of being in the SEC, but they had pretty darn good recruiting even while in the B12. One thing to mention, although some kids may choose A & M b/c of SEC, there will be some kids who choose to play in the B12 for location, style/scheme, or offensive fire power reasons. They will come close to offsetting one another.

I think the fact that Sumlin is at A & M is going to be one of the biggest factors, not conference affiliation. Sumlin + SEC = dangerous for the SEC. I think Sumlin's A & M team will be one of the better SEC teams.

    Top Tier: Bama and LSU

MiddleTier: A &M, GA, AUB, FL, SC, and ARK (no particular order)

Bottom Tier: UK, Missouri, Ole Miss, Miss St. Vanderbilt, Tenn. (no particular order)

Coaches can make verbal offers whenever they want. They just can't make it "official" and in writing until a certain point. RJ Washington committed to us during December of his junior year. USC got a commit from a QB a couple of years that was in the 8th grade or something like that.

  • TAM to the SEC is new and fresh. It will create some buzz for a few years. When the Aggies continue their losing ways, it will die down and they will return to their appropriate ranking behind the major powers as always.

Yes ut has won a few championships but we will see how it pans out for A$M over the next few years. It will be interesting. The problem with A$M joining the SEC is that it opened up recruiting for the powerhouse teams in the SEC a little bit wider.Like OUinLA said ,conference affiliation apparently means a lot but winning has to trump it inevetiably and unfortunately if A$M doesn't win, more of those Texas high schools studs will be going to the SEC conference to play for Bama and LSU.However, Mizz. and A$M will be able to chant SEC and that will soothe the pain of being a also ran middle of the road conference member.

  • I dispise A&M and Mizzou for leaving for the SEC. Especially Mizzou since I hold them responsible for the breakup of the Big 12 in the first place. I'm not so mad at Neb or Colorado because I understood their reasoning. Neb vs tx gave the huskers a good excuse and the Colorado culture has long been closer to the PAC than to the rest of us.
I've rooted against the aggies since I attended the OU game there in 1994-95 (can't remember). But my friend and I were good natured OU fans and we were treated abysmally.
I do want Sumlin (another head coach from the Bob Stoops coaching tree) to succeed; so I'm torn.
This all makes sense in my feeble mind. It's probably goofy to everyone else.

    Wrong

You could not possibly in the history of college football be more misguided. ATM and OU to the SEC would give control of Texas recruits to 2 schools and both OSU and UT would have crapped their pants. I really wish we had the cajones to do it. Sucks that we didn't. Looks way too much like we are UT's subservient employee.
