Yet ANOTHER reason why OU is a better program than Texas

  • Most of their fans can't even watch their game on Saturday! While some of us are complaining about the start time for us (9:30pm CDT-folks, just take a nap!), the epic failure otherwise known as the Longhorn Network has picked up no other outlets to carry it. (No Dish, U-Verse, Direct-TV, etc. ) Other than Verizon and a small cable company near Austin-I've heard of no one else picking it up. The guys at work are furious! They are scheduled to have another football game and several basketball games on it also. Hope ESPN learned their lesson. Of course any game you watch on their family of networks will have to endure the advertising. Yet another reason we need to "cut off the horns of the wicked".

  • Skip you brought up a good point. I think that it is great that it has failed, from the fans perspective. Once the high school football games were headed-off, then I think that took a lot more potential market demand away that they did not calculate. But, I don't know that the texas administration cares, since they have their money. And I surely don't mind ESPN taking it in the shorts.

  • This is toooo funny! A network that actually keeps tens of thousands of alumni from watching their Whorns...lol

  • not that I care about the texas fans but asca college football fan, I would be pissed if my school I root for, had their own network, I lived in the state and I couldnt watch the game on tv because the network isnt showing it... I would be pissed bigtime!!

  • That's right, Skip. Only Verizon FIOS and Grande Communications, a cable provider based out of San Antonio with notoriously crappy service, have the Schlonghorn network. I'll get every OU game, except the Florida A&M game on TV and that one will likely be on Time Warner PPV here in Austin.

  • I think yOUr program shOUld be able to claim a minimum of 5 Heisman trophy winners and 7 National Championships before yOU qualify for yOUr own network.

  • OP spoke a bit too soon because Uverse is most likely going to announce that they are picking it up tomorrow.

  • I remember the early days of cable. Little push-button boxes with attached cords. I suspect that LHN is similar. Be careful of condemning it too early. The state of Texas has a huge population lead over this state. Give it a few years to mature and I suspect that LHN will become more than expected. I hope that long-term, OU can keep up.
