Who will be New OC?

I want to say that I am really happy for Kevin Wilson if he is the New HC at Indiana if that is what he wants. He has done a really wonderful job for OU and really did a great job of tayloring the offense to the skills of the players. He did have moments that everyone (me included) thought his play calling was not working but as Bob Stoops would say "At the end of the Day" he did a solid job.
I remember how predictable Chuck Long was and Kevin was very creative.
With that being said who will be next. Will it be everyone's favorite - Josh Huepel - or Jay Norvell or even Cale Gundy? I believe that Cale is really happy where he is with the running back (and I really think he does a good job). Jay Norvell has been with several teams both College and Pro and I think he was OC at Nebraska with Callahan. Josh is a very smart guy and probably could do a good job but does he have the play calling experince that a OC at OU should have. I think he probably was given the opportunity to make play changes at the line of scrimage that other quarterbacks have not been able to do.
Would someone outside be brought in to be OC or maybe would we have a Co-OC with Norvell and Josh?

I think you may be on to something with Co-Coordinators. Josh as Pass Game Coordinator and Cale as Run Game Coordinator. Josh will call the plays.

If its in house, it will probably be Norvell. He has the experience and background.

We have three coachs on staff that under Coach Stoops tuteledge would probably do the job just fine. My personal choice would be Josh even if he is a little young. Look at what did in two years as a player for the Sooners. With that said . If Stoops promotes from with in or hires a top OC from the many that should love to coach at OU , We will be ok.

It probably goes without saying on this board. But, with the talent on the roster returning the next couple of years, Stoops' decision here as to the offensive coordinator is absolutely critical. It would be a shame if it's a failed experiment and we waste a couple of potential golden years.
that said, Stoops' track record in picking quality coordinators is probably second to none. He seems to have a knack for identifying talent, as evidenced as recently as last year with his hire of Martinez, which is already paying huge dividends.

We need to go outside the program. I think we could bring in someone with fresh ideas and a new stance on things. Just don't think hiring from within is the answer. With that being said I am sure Stoops will select loyalty over finding the proven OC.
I think we all know Stoops will not go outside the program for OC.

Awesome redzone offense. Incredible ability to punch it in from 1 yard line.
Believe it or not there are good coaches out there that could bring a lot to this offense with our talent. Just because a coach has been here does not mean he should just be handed the OC position.
KW is a good OC and put up great numbers. Just don't think you are getting the best available if you just hire from within. OU does not have all the best coaches on staff just waiting for promotions.

Josh isnt too young. I think a former teammate of his is doing pretty well as an OC in the Pac-10...no?

We have had co this and co that and NO Special Teams coach!!!! We have a DT coach and DE coach, just seems it has to get chancy coordinating all the calls, signals, changes.....We do a great job but is there a better way??? To say nothing about someone that has a clue on KICKERS!!!

Norvell would do fine as OC.Give Josh a little more seasoning, a little more
experience. Bring in a OL coach and a ST coach. Norvell can coach WR's and
be OC and call plays. You know ST is a third of the game and we need a full
time coach there. Wilson taking patton with him is a big positive. I wouldnt
mind Mangino being the OL coach next year. With this lineup we will win
the glass ball.

Where do people get the idea Norvell will be a good OC? He was an OC at Nebraska and they sucked. I think he's coaching what he does best given his track record.

While I like Leach being in football, he does not fit the unity direction BS has created, which I admire.
I do not know which direction would be best, but Norvel did not look good at NU, but that could be on Callahan.
My guess is that Josh or an outside hire would be best.
I hate to move Josh or Norvell, as both seem to be in a good groove coaching positions.

I think 50% chance they promote Norvell, 30% they make him and Josh co-coordinators, and 20% Bob finds someone tremendous from outside. Then again, I could be 100% wrong too. . .kinda like Deano.

I say 50% chance Jay gets the job, 50% chance Jay and Josh split it. 0% of anything else happening.
I hope to goodness Josh is at least co-coordinator. Jay is a west-coast guy with just a couple of years experience in our system (almost 3) whereas Josh has a bunch of experience.
BTW, hiring Mangino wouldn't free up a coaching spot, we'd still have to replace KW as TE/FB coach.
I wonder who would get the TE/FB coach job?
Things are rarely perfect or totally bad. Reality=closer to the middle. Never as bad as it seems, never as good as it seems.
