  • I mentioned this in another thread, I would like to see a depth chart updated before each game and maybe a sticky listing the status of injured players. Thanks for your hard work.

Oh and while we're asking... Can we get the "Sunshine" thread back?

  • I'd like to see more recruit interviews. Otherwise I like the content here. That Trench Warfare thread at the other site is pretty nice though. Just sayin'.

    Cover 2

  • I agree that the biggest dropoff in quality on the board has been the departure of a number of worthy posters who generated good content.

My suggestion for improving the site, however, which is unrelated to the above observation, is one that might come off as snarky, but is not, I assure you, intended to be: Please, please, please hire someone to edit the stories that are generated for this site. This is not meant as a slap at any of the staff writers -- every writer needs an editor, and usually more than one; that's why newspapers, magazines and publishers employ editors and proofreaders and copy editors -- but posting unedited (or inexactly edited) copy leaves many of us cringing as we read.

What's more, the editing process needn't impede the material from getting to the site quickly, either. As a published writer myself and a freelance editor for a major sports site, I could edit one of James' locker room reports in no more than fifteen minutes. Would it be perfect after those fifteen minutes of editing? Not always, but it would be 100% better than the product with which we're provided each week.

Imagine if you picked up a magazine or newspaper and found it riddled with typos, glaring grammatical errors, and unclear phrasing. You'd be irritated and would, after a while, stop buying that publication.

Well, there's no reason the professional prose here should be held to a different standard than print publications.

And again, I don't intend the above comments as jabs at any of the writers on staff here. I've edited many professional -- and even famous -- writers, and believe me, almost of all of them were guilty of typos, misspellings and such (some of them to a shocking degree). But you're insulting your readership if you go live with stories that haven't been effectively edited. And again, it's not perfection I seek, but I think it's fair to expect prose that is cleaner than what we're currently seeing (and have seen for a long time).

I've offered my services to the site before and the offer stands today, but of course, it certainly doesn't have to be me; I'm sure there are plenty of qualified editors in the metro area. But unless and until you find someone to give your stories at least a quick going-over before publishing them, you're doing a disservice to your readership.

  • Thanks Skyvue. I thought I was the only one this bothered. It is irritating to try and read some of the articles. You are 100% correct on 15 minutes of proofreading putting out a much better product. Thanks for saying what I have been thinking for a long time. Like Skyvue said, it won't be perfect, but it will be a 100% better.

I'm glad you're happy with the status quo. I would like to see more from this site and even basic things we had on the VBulletin version. Should we not bring forth ideas and things we would like to see? That seems to be the opposing opinion on this site. I think its important for our voices to be heard. We do pay for this service. You voice your opinon and I voice mine. I don't agree with what you have to say in this post but I think you should be able to say it all the same.

This site used to be the best one on the net and now its not what it once was. Some of us want it to get back to that point so we offer suggestions rather than attack posters with opinions.

Just calling it like I see it. I think there can be improvements made also. You can always improve. I just don't see the need to whine like a three year old all the time (and some on here do exactly that). If I were to have a problem with the way something's done I'd handle it in a mature way and pm admin. instead of acting like others on here.

  • I agree Marc, but just out of curiousity what do you do when you do try and PM the admin several times, to avoid keeping things off the board and you can't get a response?

I have attempted PMs and got no response before. So now what should the course of action be? There are power in numbers and they can ignore one or a few of us but if it gets brought out in the open then it can't be ignored. I don't necessarily agree with the method (whining as you call) but I think its an important issue and topic that needs to be addressed.
