What is up with his knee?
"With Nebraska trying to leave, we felt like we needed to send them out with a loss, and we did." -Ryan Broyles-
I hope we get him but for some reason I don't feel as good about it as I should. I really have a hard time seeing any comparison in the two programs, especially the two head coaches.
When was the last time that Nebraska won a conference championship. In the 90's. We are talking some 20 years ago.
In the end, we will end up with Quincy.
Nebraska struggled in the Big12, much so in the end. I hated to see them leave for the Big10, I thought the program could do well there, but I'm really shocked that they have had a struggle?
In the next two seasons...we will play games in Dallas / Fort Worth (3 times), Waco, Lubbock - so a lot of opportunity to play in and against TX. Plus trips to South Bend and Knoxville. Come on up Mr. Russell...and play in some big time games almost exclusively on national TV.
And so many games your friends, family and especially Mom can come to. It can get cold in Norman but can't compare to the frozen tundra unfit for human habitation known as Lincoln.
I can see the case for Nebraska. First, wherever he goes he has to believe he'll be prepared for the next level. Next Nebraska was the champion of its division in the Big Ten despite how the championship game went. That particular game showed how much they need him.
Finally, there's something to be said for going far away and starting a new football life. He would be establishing himself in a new part of the country among new media markets and near several pro teams. Right now when you think of DT and Nebraska you think of Suh, a dominant figure.
It's true that Nebraska will be relying on a shaky offense (and perhaps Adam Taylor of Katy at RB - incredibly only 3-stars) to bring them back to the top. If you look at their roster you see something strange:
Currently they have, for instance, 31 OLinemen.
He'll find his place easier on the depth chart at OU. Next season our defense will be significantly better or worse depending upon his decision and the quality of his play. Because we change QBs, our offense won't be up again until Jefferson and Colvin and Wort and Corey Nelson are gone. Our DL will be good Russell's senior year. Our WRs will be good. We will have new small LBs by then and whatever DBs Mike has brought in and coached up.
You can't predict all the details, but at worst, our plateau is higher than Nebraska's, and if Wisconsin had scored 70 on us they might still have lost.
When all is said and done, he'll look to his heart (and maybe to his Mom's heart too) and make the leap.
Maybe that's a bunch of sap.
I guess I am missing something. Your mom is going to drive to games. OU will play multiple games in Texas a year plus Norman is 7 hours from SA. Now, NU is a days travel and they will not play anyone closer than Lincoln to SA. Not getting it.
Plus the only reason they were in the championship game was because Pedo state and tosu were ineligible.
The distance argument is legit but there is some serious negative recruiting being done against Big 12 schools for playing against spread teams and not getting a chance to be noticed at DT
