James just a question and I’m not slamming anybody I’m just asking. If we had problems as big as what it now seems we had on defense why did we go along with those problems for so long. I would guess that we were having problems with some of the better players on that side of the ball. But if they weren’t doing the work to get to a point that they needed to be at to get the job done why didn’t we just drop them on the roadside. I think I would rather have a newer playing with potential that I could mold into the type of player I wanted over a more experienced player that was bringing the program down. After the K-St and ND game we all knew that a championship was not going to happen this year even if it cost us another game or two I personally think it would be worth it going into next year with a little game experience on the D side of the ball.
It seems that in the past when we have had personal problems like falling out of the back of pick-ups, having no show jobs at a car dealership or whatever they were if they weren’t with the program they were out of the program. It also seems that over the last few years we have been going downhill a little on the talent level on the defense, at least in the front seven. We seem to have targeted talented db’s at the cost of other positions. Is this the case or is it that the players that we targeted are players that just haven’t panned out for whatever reason.
I don’t think you can lie any of this on Mike because he was saddled with what was here. That being said I heard that we were throwing a lot of money at BV to try to get him to stay. Did anybody have any idea what our talent was going to be like this year with what players we had when Mike got here? I just don’t understand how things could have gone so far south with the talent of the OL, DL and LB’ers in such a short period of time. It’s going to be interesting to see what in the way of JUCO players we are going to be able to pick-up this year to fill in some of the spots we need help in.
to recruit texas you have to be "in" with the texas HS coaches. Is the reason we are looking national more, and really putting an empahsis on national more than recruiting texas, that Bob's arragant attitude has turned off the texas coaches ?
And now since we turned our back on texas those players are going to tcu, baylor,TT,aTm,okie lite, and that trash from the sec. Have we just shit in our own bed?
And that problem with Josh hasnt been mentioned. Did you notice he couldnt even get the play in on the belldozer TWICE and had had to call a time out?
josh should do the OU fans a favor and resign since Bob wont take care of it. I'd even vote for Chuck Long coming back. He ran circles around josh. Josh doesnt have the experience to adapt when the D makes adjustments. Just look at the cotton bowl game, They came out the 2nd half in a 3 man front and josh didnt have a clue what to do. Result,....shut out the 2nd half. Even a blind man can see josh has got to give up play calling and schemming

Not Mike's GUYS- now that is a good excuse.
I will keep my tickets. I plan on being here long after every member of the have retired. However, the day Kish was hired. I looked up his bio and posted that this was a terrible hire! He has had a long career and there is something to be said of that. However, in all of that time, this is his biggest gig and he has never been a success. We were told what a great recruiter he is. I have no doubt that he recruits hard. However, show me where he has ever closed on a big prospect? He is too old for this assignment and his background doesn't merit the hire.

James, to me, this was one of your most complete and straightforward articles in a while. A lot to think about. I appreciate you taking the time to put this together for us to consider.
To me all of this comes back to the coaching staff in one way or the other. It seems clear that the recruiting and overall talent on the staff has slipped. I doubt many would argue that, over all, Bob's original staff wasn't head and shoulders about this one in every respect. I would think that not only should Bob evaluate every member of his staff and ask the question 'çan I make and upgrade here' but he should have a third party do the same. I am sure that there are folks available to do this effectively. You just have to be open enough to do it.
