UA/Mike and OU

  • Canyoneer will be at the UA game this evening against the weasel lead UCLA Bruins...he is doing that to support the kids on the team (who have been through enough) and to talk to some alums and fine out more about the new hiring search. apparently the UA has actually talked to Chris Peterson (Boise State U) and he is responsive to overtures at this point...I can tell you the old man is NOT a happy camper about what happened to Mike.

It is interesting that Mike is apparently going to OU this week and will be there for the game on Saturday, as well as in Norman before the game. Again, he cannot have contact with any players, but I find it interesting....as we a;ll know coach V won't be there forever, in fact there are rumors about UCLA being very interested in him..

Another rumor is that the AD at the UA wants to also talk to tejas DC..Diaz. Now wouldn't Mack wet his pants if that happened...

  • No way I would trade Mike for Diaz. That's like Green Bay trading QBs with Minnesota. Not Smart!

  • Thanks Mark/Mark's Dad....this stuff is more than worth the price of admission. OUI should pay you $1 per post. lol....

  • Mike was a less than average head coach who ultimately got what comes to most coaches in that classification. He will resurface as a very good defensive coordinator for someone soon. It is possible someday that he might get a head coaching chance at some lesser FBS school that is not in a BCS league.

  • My understanding about the U of A coaching search, the relationship between Byrne and Petersen goes back to his days at Oregon and he is listening. I have heard from a rather close source that Leach has expressed interest through his agent but he is a long shot. Diaz, first I've heard of this and I know some rather big boosters. Byrne is being very close to the vest about his search so it's hard to get any real concrete information. As for Mike, he should visit Bob and his family, they are brothers after all and I'm sure he'd like to be at OU again but unless Brent leaves I doubt he will be. Mike will not be unemployed long but will be a DC for someone I just hope it's not in the Big XII -2.

Confidence is preparation. Everything else is beyond our control.

  • Venebles and Mike are pretty close in the x&o department, but Mike might blow a gasket, which never looks too good on TV. Always remember him and Ontai Jones at each other it did make the kid live up to his potential.

The thing I like about Mike is he made Bob more of a riverboat gambler.

On that subject, I just found this item. Isn't stated, but apparently the BS administration is hearing those rumors too.

BOISE, Idaho (AP)—Boise State has gotten permission to fatten the five-year contract of football coach Chris Petersen.

The state Board of Education approved a series of tweaks to Petersen’s contract on Thursday.

Under new terms proposed by the university, Petersen’s automatic one-year contract extensions for every season the Broncos win eight games would include a $100,000 raise, double the previous amount.

Petersen’s bonus for earning a BCS berth would increase by $25,000. Under the current deal, Petersen gets a $150,000 bonus for a BCS game and $100,000 for winning a conference title.

Petersen’s total compensation this year will be $1.5 million. That amount increases by $100,000 every subsequent year to $1.9 million in 2015.

His buyout clause is valued at $650,000.

  • Peterson could easily make $2.5 million, plus at a higher rate school. However, $1.5 million in Boise is a heck of a salary. Plus, if things go wrong in Boise, he will have a lot of credibility and time to right the ship. That alone is worth a few $$$.
