Tulsa World's John Hoover on drugs??

"It's been a generation since an OU kicker won a game in the final seconds, or a Sooner quarterback led a successful comeback."
Saw that quote in his article. What? I seem to remember a hell of a comeback against Baylor in overtime in Norman.
A great one in the Big XII Conference game against Nebraska 2 years ago
I'd say the last drive against FSU in Tallahassee was pretty close to a good one.
A really nice comeback against Alabama in Norman.
I can't say I do remember an OU kicker kicking a game winning field goal in the last seconds but I hope that happens only once in generation where OU needs to.
Only thing I can come up with is that, Hoover thinks one season is a generation. Or at a minimum 4 years from one class to the next.
I saw the point but why do so many folks including professional writers stretch the facts so far?

Yep, there's been a lot of successful comebacks led by our quarterbacks. Landry's comeback against Nebraska in the Big XII Championship was a thing of beauty.

It's the off-season. I get the impression every writer (and sports talk show) is struggling to think of stuff to write about until practice starts.

The Nebraska game was a good comeback, but it wasn't a last drive in the final seconds. One of the reasons we haven't been in a last minute come-back situation is because we win a lot of games pretty handily. Or, take control in the 4th quarter - if we are behind. That stat is really not that significant although it does test a team's character.

Agreed. Stoops is doing a great job though no doubt, but to be in the same conversation with Bud and Barry's legacies, he needs to get another NC and this year looks like it has the makings to do it.
If the OL is a strong as we are being led to believe, and with the plethora of RB and WR talent coming onboard and added to what we already have, this could be our year. As much as I love our passing game, we need to be able to dish out brutal punishment on the ground if we are going to go all the way.
I think our q-marks will be on the DL--mostly the DTs. We haven't been dominant there for a long time. We're thin at DE and LB so we could have some close ones.

Alabama in Norman comes to mind.
A lot of Renaldo Works on that final drive though.

We've had our chances on the kicking part.............even against oregon in that debacle, had we not had one blocked...........
Against t tech last year, we would have won with good kicking
I'm pretty sure there are others, but on the comeback thing? naw, he's thinking of the old wishbone days when it seemed impossible we would come back with a runnning team and so little time........its wrong to thing we haven't lately its just with a different O and perhaps not as much apprehension or anxiety of will it happen.

It's a lot better than the Jokelahoman. I've lived in both cities and the TW is far superior IMO.

I think he means come from behind late in the game and win. Alabama was on a turnover. and weren't we ahead? I can't think of one. Even under Sam we had some failures.

In that Alabama we came from behind to take the lead late in the game with Works having a couple of big plays. Then Alabama got the ball back with a little time left and their QB fumbled with Bassey running it back for a TD. we won 38-28. Definitely a comeback win at the end of the game.

Conners was the best I ever read, bar none; he was the best; I still recall his story on the recruiting class coming in that had Billy Sims and others , he went down the list.........and before when the Selmons came; He correctly predicted those years ahead and he was the best and most practical analyst I've read to date.
I really miss that guy........he just added value to the whole genre

I think he is looking for a John Elway type comeback. Alabama in Norman may be a close as it gets. The other games we were ahead.

I believe the only late comeback win in the Stoops era is the Alabama game. He would have had one against Boise but the defense choked. We have had some comebacks when we were behind early but no late game heroics.
It is rare for there to even be close games anymore unless we are on the road. Also seems weird in that everybody scores so frequently your not surprised when they move the ball. A touchdown lead in the past was solid late in games. Now you expect to be tied in two minutes.
