Timeout cost us the game

  • Baylor was content to run out the clock, and we had the momentum going into overtime. The inexplicable timeout will keep us from moving into 3rd in the BCS and having a legitimate shot at the NCG. Nice call, Big Game Bob.

  • How do you figure we were going to stop them and win in OT when we didn't do it the whole game?

This. People are lining up to cry about the timeout but most people I've seen post approved of the decision to go for two. Both decisions were risky and were for the same purpose, which was to win it in regulation.

Overtime was a definite advantage to Baylor.

    Hard to argue with that.

    This.

On the road, with momentum and the wind, you hope your d can make a stop and you have a chance to get in position to make a fg and win.

Had it worked out, people would be praising Stoops and saying the riverboat gambler is back.

Not really a bad gamble considering where the ball was on the field. D has to make 2 plays and force a punt. Didn't work out.

    Move on.

  • Bob was going for two because he didn't want us to get into an OT shootout with Griffin. They hadn't stopped the Belldozer all night, so why not? The timeout didn't cost us the game. The inability to play pass defense did.

    Yep.

OT advantage is to the home team.

And we had a good wind in the 4th that Bob was hoping they would punt into and we could hit a pass or two and try a long FG.

Not a bad call in my book, just didn't work out.

At best, we get the ball back with 10 to 15 seconds with no timeouts. In that time, we're suppose to drive 30+ yards and kick the game winning fg. I consider that a bad gamble.

10 to 15 seconds? I think 25 to 30 is a more reasonble estimate if we had been able to force a 3-and-out, more if there were any incomplete passes involved.

they went 80 in 51 seconds with no TOs. They were trying to win also. What if he throws a pic, then they are dumb for not kneeling and going to OT.

  • Absolutely terrible decision to call a timeout. There was very little upside.

With respect to overtime, we had scored 14 straight and had the clear momentum.

I think going for two was fine. But the timeout

It wasn't a gamble it was suicide. Didn't mind the go for two but the TO was the worst, most moronic call I've seen in 15 yrs.

It was 2nd and 8 with 48 seconds left. The upside was an opportunity to get a 3-and-out and kick a game winning FG when they were going into the wind. The idea is that you call the timeout, see what happens on second down, and then either call another one or let the clock go. Giving up 50 yard TD passes ruins any strategy.

You're right, great call on the timeout. Why send the game to overtime when you can give Baylor a shot at winning in regulation? Brilliant.

Because their chances of winning in overtime were even better. What world do you live in where going to overtime in that game would be in any way a good thing?

You're pissed cuz it didn't work out. Had it worked out and resulted in a game winning field goal, I suspect the same fans now bashing the decision would be spouting about how great of decision it was.

It was not a bad call given the circumstances.

  • screw the TO, if you can't hold them for 51 seconds and let them go 80 yards, then we deserve to lose.

  • Tale advantage of them not calling TO and go to OT where they score and kick extra pt and we then score and run the Belldozer for the win.

But we had been giving up 50 yard passes all night. What would make anyone think it would be any different? Terrible call. We had momentum and were better equipped for red zone success.

There's no way to know what would have happened in overtime, but there's a lot of reasons to believe that the odds were long against us winning.
