Sooners Excited About Receivers

The University of Oklahoma was in desperate need of wide receivers after All-American Ryan Broyles went down with a knee injury during last season

  • I'm thinking with the wideouts we have on campus, QB's should be lining up to sign with OU. This group of receivers we have would probably make most college QB's drool on themselves.

  • And I think Stills and Jackson are good receivers. How can you utilize this many good receivers?

Surely some will end up being DB's.

  • As exciting a receiver as Neal is, he looks like a fantastic safety to me.

Kameel Jackson and Kenny Stills should have two spots locked down. That leaves 3 spots for plenty of PT and sometimes 4 more. Should we see an injury, we are in better shape to overcome it.

Shepard should be better than Franks on day one, and Metoyer and Gardner both should push Reynolds for an outside spot. Woods and Neal are wildcards in my opinion.

It's going to get interesting. I feel that only one should need to change positions and my guess is Neal and that's only because he looks like a striking football player with intelligence to star at safety.

  • Hopefully this will push Stills to work harder. Kameel hasn't done anything special in a game yet. Looking back at his highlights and the new kids. The new guys are much more explosive than anything we've had at OU. Now too see if they can carry that to the field, tbd.

Not with Mike He recruits db's that double as receivers, not the other way around like Bob.

First Thing you'll notice about Mike's recruits they all would rather play man, and they will be ahead of most teams patterns because they anticipate...........

That's why the double move has hurt OU in the past when M Stoops was D-Cord. Anticipation.

Every receiver OU had at the end of the season was recruited over with this new class of receivers. At the end of the season across the front we had Reynolds, Franks, Stills and Miller. Miller is gone, Reynolds is hurt, Franks is too small and other limitations which only leaves Stills. These new receivers will play if they can run routes, block and catch/catch the ball.

  • Each new guy can only hope to be on the level of Kameel Jackson at the start of next season. He was not recruited over.

    Deep Red

  • Kenny and Jazz were not recruited over I promise you that they will both be drafted. Jazz health isn't an issue either Cale Gundy said today at the luncheon that he is already back going through workouts with the team and that he will play next season.

  • I know it all depends on development from not only the new WR's & TE's,but also the older ones who have been in the program several years, but with that said Landry Jones should have a feast hitting all the different weapons he will have!!!GO SOONERS!!!!!

I'd use all of 'em. We run ALOT of plays. If we had fresh legs constantly we'd give dbs fits!

I am confused. How does Jackson have a spot locked down over Jaz Reynolds?

At the time I wrote this I was unaware of Reynolds health status. If he misses Spring and Jackson is one of few with experience participating this Spring, I think there is a good chance he locks up a starting position.

Jackson was really impressive down the stretch.

  • I get a little perturbed about the slanted focus the media brought into "Jones struggling to throw td passes"....seems there was half a dozen times or more when their were nice longish passes and the receiver got down deep in the red zone, but could have scored , maybe on half of those. I do agree that Jones isnt perfect and i sometimes thinks he's a little bit "trying to make the throw" eg the Okie State int, or was that last year. anyway, i'm sure looking forward to metyer and the newbies.

  • It should be a great battle for the outside receiver positions from the returning guys and Gardner. If Stills doesn't change his habits he will be the odd man out of the rotation. Jackson did some promising things but he was very inconsistant which hopefully he overcomes with experience.

The slot sound like a battle of the freshman. May the best man win the job.
I love to have defensive guys who were offensive players at one time. It was great watching Woolf covering a guy but appearing to be the offensive player as he swooped in for interceptions. JT Thatcher going to get the ball and bringing it to the house.

Surely somebody is better than Stills at returning punts. He showed no ability to run with the ball.
