Sooner "D" Looking to Quiet Critics

The Oklahoma Sooners find themselves in an unfamiliar position heading into their bowl game against the Iowa Hawkeyes

    MDellaVecchio

  • James any information on Wort's younger brother? Possible walk on maybe?

    CypressSooner

  • i'm pretty sure that two years ago we were in a bowl game prior to new years day. but i get the point, it doesn't happen often.

  • Too late. The time to really prove yourselves was a few weeks ago in Stoolwater. Now you play an inferior team without their top running back. Much to lose, little to gain.

  • It's nice to hear that some of the guys on the D are taking this game seriously. We need to end the year with a W and get some confidence for next year!

  • Well this thread brought out all the morons.

    hooknladder

  • Yes it did hook. One loser said our game wouldn't mean anything because they don't have their best back.....HELLO!!!! We have lost 6 of our best eight players over the last 5 weeks of the season! Our best back, maybe best back in big XII, our best receiver, the best in the history of college football! So I think they will not need the excuse of loosing their tailback. Thank you.

  • I hate to spoil the new dirction of this thread, but this is a heck of a write up about Wort in his home town. That is some serious ink for a kid that left at age 14.

My guess is that we have an Oklahoma fan base there because of that article. Maybe the local Haberdashery will start selling OU gear?

Have they started an OU club in Crawley?

While I agree to a point, the team needs something positive to build on for next year and I think they are using this game for that.

We built on the positive last year of winning a BCS game for the first time in years. Of course the team sucked and we followed with 9 wins.

For the defense to look good they have to shut out Iowa. Nebraska held them to seven points their last game and now they don't have their I-back.

lets try to limit the over-exaggerations at least a little bit.... the statement "the team sucked and we followed with 9 wins" is a bit of an oxymoron. teams that suck don't win 9 games in a season unless we're talking about the NBA. let me help - the team "under-achieved". there, doesn't that sound more accurate? and it will keep the rest of us from jumping all over your posts. win-win. thumbsup

    jeremy

ps. please clarify if you were referring to UCONN as the team that sucked, that would make at least a little more sense.

  • Yes I was referring to UCONN because that is the team we beat to build on for this season. The topic above is the defense wants to prove they are good. If we shut down Iowa it doesn't mean we have a good defense or will build on it for next year.

Our defense has been average at best this year and are losing the best players. Frank Alexander is an All-American, Ronnell was leading us in tackles, Travis was our best linebacker even with the injury, and Fleming was our best defensive back. I'm sure we will here all spring how they are going to better. I hope it is true but the returning guys need dramatic improvement.

  • OU needs to shut down the average Iowa defense. If not, it will be extremely dissapointing

    allgonzo

  • It's always better to win a bowl game going into the next season and this would be our 3rd in a row, defensively we need to have a really good showing because Iowa is not much of a passing team and they lost their top back. I'm hopeful that happens, we should be as healthy as we've been all year for the most part

  • Oh my God. We lost THREE GAMES IN ONE YEAR!!!
Therefore, let's fire the coaches and start all over again! Let's hire some "smart" coaches. They'll win the MNC every year. We suck with Bob Stoop's coaching and staff.
Some of y'all are absolute maroons! Err… morons! Aggies are morons and that's what a lot of you sound like... maroons!
We have one of the top 3 coaches in the country who is the third winningest coach among active coaches who have coached over 5 years. Texas always has more and better talented players and we still beat them most years.
We've lost a lot of players to injuries and egos or players who want more playing time. But it's gotta be because Stoops is a bad coach.
You morons are not OU Fans. You're not fanatics about OU. You're fanatics about your own egos. You know much more than the rest of us about football, heck you know more than OUr coaches! Go root for a team you can follow AND BE HAPPY! OSU is doing good this year. Go follow them because they won THIS year.
We will stay Sooner fanatics and win all but 1, 2 or 3 games every year and we also will have those years like 2000 when we have few injuries and most of fate falls our way and we win our 8th, 9th 10th, etc. and et al MNCs.
Y'all have fun with those winners that always make you happy… idiots!
We have so many great fans, how can we have so many idiots too!
Heck, I get mad when we lose. I really get mad when we lose to teams we should beat… which was 3 this year; AND I CUSS AND SCREAM AT THE COACHES for a day or two. Then I'm a sunshine pumper again because I love my Sooners. I get mad at my spouse and yell at her (usually because I'm an idiot) but I don't dump her after that because I still love her.
And I don't want to dump what I consider the best coach in the NCAA because he loses a few games every now and then.

I understand how you feel but there is plenty to gain. I would hate to see this team go into next year with another loss! There is much that needs to be proved here and worked out and the extra work the younger guys will get give added experience like many have mentioned all year. We have a lot of guys that are going to start and others that get to play more than they have all year long, these players should be pumped, more prepared and ready to show what they can do heading into next year. Iowa should be easier to defend against than what they have faced all year long.

If you are Ok with losing 3 games go cheer for another team. There is no damn reason we should be behind ksu and Baylor.

I'd be willing to bet that the majority of folks on this board would prefer that YOU go and cheer for another team. I can't think of anyone who's been more disrespectful and negative as you have.

    Happy Holidays.

  • I hope the defense plays well, Iowa plays the type off offense that the OU defenses normally shut down? We take the run away, and play solid for a little pass thrown in. They pretty much mirror Uconn?
The practice time will be very valuable to the staff and players to build on for 2012.
