Running Back *

  • What running backs do you think will transfer next year? We have two stud freshman and Brandon Williams coming in. Jonathan Miller is gone in my opinion and Calhoun will stay since his injury.

    Thoughts?

  • Jonathan is a great back from what I've seen. Given the way we have utilized our RBs in the past (Brown + Murray) I won't be surprised if all stay. That being said, I agree there will be some attrition and for whatever reason I think it will be Calhoun.

  • I wouldn't go so quick to say Jonathan Miller transfers. He is very good in his own right and will be given plenty of chances to show what he can do. He is fast and could potentially work in the slot too. With Brennan, and Finch carrying the majority of the load and Calhoun not playing next year (I know its not set in stone, but he needs a long rehab like Miller had) and Williams coming in we are stacked. I would imagine we can find another use for him if we can't get him in at RB but he is a good kid and I don't think he will transfer, least what his dad says about the transferring issue

  • I think they will all stay.

    MisterX

  • I hope they all stay and I'm a Miller fan. I just see two freshman passing him on the depth chart and possible Williams if as good as advertised. Calhoun has been a big bust and I don't see him seeing the field ever again at OU.

  • Miller will play next year he is a stud

  • Not sure. If anyone, I'd say Clay. Miller burned his redshirt year, and with Calhoun (coming off injury), Finch, Miller, and Brandon Williams, someone is getting lost in the shuffle.

Of course, I'm usually wrong about this kind of thing...

  • I thin miller will get a lot of time next year... I think of Finch and Clay as scatbacks while I see Miller as more a north south power guy... all will have a spot and I think you will see miller lined up with one of the small backs in the slot

  • Calhoun might stay just to get healthy, Miller, I don't know.

  • Calhoun

  • Calhoun has to see himself as the guy outside looking in.

    The Daddy

  • If anyone I can see Calhoun transferring and redshirting at his new school while he heals since he has to sit out. I don't want him to do this, but this would make sense if he wants more playing time.

Miller reminds me of Tashard Choice when he was here and I see him being part of a rotation if he comes back as fast and strong as before. He is a different style than Finch or Clay, so he would be complimentary to them.

    LJandtheDeuce

  • I hope they all stay, coz we hardly seen what any of them can do for a whole game.

The spring competition will be fierce, I would imagine...with Finch, Clay in the lead but all the other guys need to remember they are one injury away from teh Sooners needing them to help win some games.

Several? As in who? If anyone leaves it would most likely be Calhoun at this point, other than that I wouldn't believe any others to leave until next year.

  • I don't see anyone leaving for another year until the competition shakes out. Even then if we keep running 90 plays a game there might be room for everyone.

  • Anyone see Calhoun as a candidate to change positions? Safety?

    Stuck in Mexas

  • I don't think Miller will transfer because he redshirted this year to give him a chance to start next year. He is a very confident running back who doesn't feel he takes a backseat to any other on the roster. He will want to find that out in the field.

I think Calhoun would have transferred before he knee injury just to give himself a chance to play somewhere. Now because of the knee injury I am not sure what he will be thinking. The best care and rehab he can get is at OU at a D-2 program. He has already redshirted so his athletic clock is running out and he tore more than just his ACL.

  • thanks James, that is how I see it as well. Do you think that Brandon Williams redshirts next year with Finch, Clay and Miller toting the football unless injuries occur?

    May I,

Tis true...very true. Jonathon feels like he has a chance to play a lot next year and any competitive souled player would feel that way. Believe me redshirt years are hard on a kid especially when they feel they are ready to play and pretty much have to be patient. I think what a lot of people don't realize is Jonathon is a far different runner than say Clay/Finch and even Williams. Between the tackles he is going to get those hard yards. I have seen him do it quite a bit and even in the scrimmage earlier this year. I never saw him get hit behind the line nor see him shy away from contact. I think prior to the season someone alluded to the fact that he had more 20+ yard runs than most of the kids in the backfield. I know I personally saw him rattle off a 40 yard run in the scrimmage. I can only imagine he got better as the year went along. This is not a pump up J-Millz session but more something to kind of back up what James Hale just said "he wants to find out on the field". In talking to Cale a few weeks ago he expressed to me that Jonathon is probably the best blocker and/or picks up the blitz a lot better than some of the other guys (hope Cale don't mind me saying that). Trust me he's working to get himself on the field by trying to be the complete back and compliment a stout backfield. The season is rolling to the end and I can say this now...we talked a lot about what this season can do for him and what he thinks about this season and he felt like it would be much like last season with minimal carries and spot duty. Well rather than risk injury in that mode he figured he'd sit out and work to get better.

Look for probably the toughest running back competition in all of NCAA in the spring at OU.

  • I agree that Calhoun is on the outside, looking in. Miller would be the starter if he was not injured when DM leaves. There is no reason to change his mind at this point.

    schooner9

  • Miller has shown some flashes. I think that he will play a great deal next year. I also think that Calhoun can contribute as well. He reminds me of Chris Brown, a strong runner and difficult to bring down on short runs without break-away speed.

  • Dream Scenario:

    Miller/Finch combo at RB

Clay moves to slot receiver and is ready to move in Finch's role if an injury occurs.

Calhoun is ready to move in Miller's position if an injury occurs.

    Williams redshirts.
