Recruiting Off to a quick start

  • Is it me or are we in fact off to a faster pace in recruiting this year.....

    Pavesooner

  • 8 recruits plus at least 2 transfers already.
I think OU can offer 20-22 this year.
    probably more with transfers, etc.

  • I'd have to say no considering there was so much hand wringing over our slow start around Jr Day time.

I would say that we are working our butts off evaluating and pursuing recruits from coast to coast.

After the negative publicity of our house cleaning and "something's not right in Norman" I'd say it's an awesome turn of events since those days. We are going to finish with a typical top shelf class which will dispel the notion that OU is in disarray.

I agree that there was a lot of hand wringing after our Jr days, but it's still a "quicker" start this year vs. last year.

This time last year we had 3 commits, all of which came in Feb. - Marrs, Ross and Shepard. The next commit, Harlow, didn't come until 5/31. http://oklahoma.scout.com/a.z?s=146&p=9&c=8&yr=2012

While we didn't have any commits until March this year, with the first one being Ford on 3/3, we are now up to 8 already. http://oklahoma.scout.com/a.z?s=146&p=9&c=8&yr=2013

In addition, we got the recent transfers in Cortez Johnson, Jalen Saunders, and LaColtan Bester, which just add to the recent commit list (by way of transfer).

As ncforever said, we can offer several more this year too, which probably contributed to the number of earlier offers out there compared to last year, which may have contributed to the greater number of commits so far.

Damn. Good job. I now agree, we are off to a better start.

  • Everybody is happy now, but the wheels were about to come off when Manning didn't commit when most thought he would?
Most felt that he would be the first to get the ball rolling.

  • Since 08', we have had about 8 players committed at this point. If you compare pre-'08, you are right..many more of our commitments came later in recruiting. That is pretty consistent with the "shift" in earlier commits across the landscape.

I don't like the trend..before you could evaluate all summer and make more informed decisions. This shift is going to make for more parody though.

Just look at UT. It seems like they were (years) ahead of the trend, trying to secure most of their commits very early in the process and, while they get many higher ranked prospects, it's really hurt them on the field in the last few years.

Yep..that is the fear of coaches all around the country. The trend is forcing the impossible...forecasting and projecting based on such limited data during the time that most kids are still maturing...spells dangerous!
