Preview of OU's 2012 Offense

  • If Jones returns, the next four games should be a preview of OU's offense next year. Granted the TE and LT, will have to be replaced, but everyone else returns. On the surface, the 2012 team appears to be stacked. That is if Jones returns. From what I've read, it appears he is leaning toward leaving.

  • I think he stays.

I do too. Not just a gut feeling, I think Whitney factors into that decision now. She is a Junior this year.

  • Think he stays, and the next few game may not preview 2012 changes, since Metoyer and others will be here by then, so I'd guess we will run the same offense, maybe with a stronger run game with Millard/Dom/Ross featured more. Think the BellDozder is here to stay.

  • At the begining of the year there was no way Jones was coming back for his senior year, now he is considering it.

  • I saw a thread where he told some people in his church he thinks he will return to OU for his senior year.

Good point MGC The next four games will not be an exact replica of the 2012 offense, but a good preview of what it may be. Granted, new players will emerge and new players will enter the program.

  • I would think that if he is projected as a top 10 draft pick then he should go. I like Landry and think he is a great kid and a very good QB. Still, I hope he opts for the NFL. He has had three years of experience at OU. A top 10 or higher draft selection will set him up financially for life. I don't know how many really great QBs will be in the 2013 draft, but he might not gain anything from returning for his Senior year.

The other issue for me, is that I am really looking forward to the Bell/Allen competition. Have nothing against Drew, but the prospects of having a kid like Bell running the OU offense is exciting to me. I think OU needs a change. So, if LJ is a top 10 projected pick then I hope he goes as I think both he and OU will be just fine.

  • You have to wonder if the injury to Broyles will influence LJ's decision. Sure Whitney's here but he'd be a top draft pick. Of course, he has Bradford to look to as an example of the kind of payday he could get if he comes back. Tough choice. One thing's for sure, if he comes back, he'd be a preseason favorite for the Heisman.

    Cover 2

  • Even if Jones leaves, I think the 2012 OU offense will have a chance to be really good.

Realistically, we only lose Stephenson off of the OL. Good and Jones are also Seniors, but neither has really contributed much this year, so we can't possibly miss either of them. With Ikard, Evans, Habern, Williams, Shead, Johnson, Thompson, Irwin and Woods we have a solid corp of OL from which to build around.

We will have Finch, Clay, Williams and hopefully Whaley all coming back. Our WRs should be good with another year under their belt. I have high hopes for Reynolds with another year under his belt. Stills still has a lot of upside. So, we just need to find a couple of others to step up and fill the void of losing Broyles and Miller. TE will be a challenge. If Haywood returns that might help some, but I am not sure he is what we need.

If, Jones returns then we are sure good at QB. Otherwise, we have to hope that either Bell or Allen really steps up. I like Bell, but either of them have the capability. Regardless it will be interesting.

  • It would be nice to have an experienced QB returning in Landry's case but I believe his decision will be to go through the draft, especially if he gets a top 10 to 20 rating. Both Landry and Whitney are RS Juniors and both are on pace to graduate in May of 2012.

  • If LJ comes back for next season, he will have a chance to go 3-1 against texas and maybe 4-0 against osu if he wins this year. A pretty good career.

Very solid career indeed but he would really be 3-0 against Texas officially. Sam started the 2009 game.

They will both graduate this spring and both have another year of eligibility...should be interesting to see what he decides.

  • I really think if Landry is going to maximize his pro career at least early he needs to come back. He has been a wonderful QB at OU, but his pocket presence could use some work and the defenses in the pro's is a whole different ball game. Most QB's that play thru their senior year seem to have much more success early on. If he's top 10 go, but he would leave a lot of money on the table if he leaves being drafted lower than that. JMO

  • Landry is a great college, but doesn't seem quite as polished as Sam was. Hope he stays, but his girlfriend has had multiple injuries. Possible that she could decide to make this her last year, as well.
