Petrino in more than a little hot water

  • He is a piece of work. Think his wife would use another term to describe him.

  • wow. not trying to cast stones, but bad boy Petrino strikes again. who's going to be the new Arkansas coach or does he just a slap on his....wrists.

  • A bit strange. But, I feel sorry for the girl. It is easy for her to be drawn by Petrino's power and charisma. That kind of stuff happens all the time. It may hurt her career more than his. He has proven to be a good recruiter/coach . . . slimy but good. She is just getting started and has less to fall back on.

  • I'm so glad we have Bob Stoops.

  • The attorneys are just making sure all the paperwork is in order. He is gone. She has a pretty clear civil case against Petrino and the University. A person in authority simply doesn't do this to an employee without potentially severe consequences.

  • How in the world did he think he could get away with this?

    That's who I am... a Sooner.

  • I don't know what the University is going to do, but what I do know is that the overwhelming majority of hog fans are willing to look the other way on this one. Funny how winning changes things. It's only been a few years since some obsessive hog fan went digging up Houston Nutt's phone records to try and prove his infidelity, while the rest of the fan base were contracting planes to fly "Fire Nutt" banners over the stadium on game days. Now they're willing to look the other way because they've tasted a little bit of success. It should be pretty interesting to see what the University does.

If the affair was welcomed by the student/employee it is not sexual harassment. She would have to prove that her consent was coerced to bring a claim.

Sexual harassment claims are difficult to win. Her best chance is to claim the affair was off and that he harassed her to keep the affair going.

  • Arkansas knew what kind of "values" they were getting with Petrino going in....what's the old saying? Lie down with dogs and?

I can see why he might want to use his "mistress" but what did she see in him? Especially if she was engaged? Ah well... more lives destroyed because people treat sex like it's nothing but a recreational sport.

  • ........not clear if this 'innapropriate relationship' was a full-blown affair, or whatever, but I don't feel sorry for this young woman. She knew he was married. Silver lining in all this is the guy who is/was engaged to her.............he, perhaps, just escaped a bad marriage .....Run guy run.

Which is exactly why they wrote all of the Behaviour clauses into his contract. Which I believe give them the room to fire him now. I would be surprised if they did, I suspect the fan base will "Encourage" Jeff Long to give him a good reprimand and reminder of his contract clauses and let it go.

I don't feel sorry for her at all.

  • I'm not sure Arkansas can afford to fire him....then hire who? Take hits in recruiting, program is "on the rise". As much as I'd like to make this about morals, we are talking about an SEC school....win at all costs. Recruiting will suffer a little while but really...do you think other Coaches don't use the Atlanta Falcons job for negative recruiting?

  • No matter what your opinion is on Petrino's most recent failing, there's no doubt that he can't be trusted.Arkansas knew this before they hired him and took the chance and lost.Selling your soul to the devil always ends up a losing proposition.

  • Is it true she's engaged to the strength coach?? Sounds like they're both trash.

I'm not sure Arkansas can afford to keep him. If they let him slide on this, what effect does this have on the behavior provisions of his contract the next time he screws up? He's a piece of crap and, the UA administration had to at least know this prior to his hiring.

  • I wonder what happens to her and her new job. If they don't fire Petrino, they sure can't touch her. It's going to be very akward. I would bet she is moved to another position in the athletic department.

Keeping both of them plus her fiance who is S&C coach for the swim team . . . I imagine it will be a little frigid in the athletic department for a while.

  • My only concern about this whole deal is Dononvan Roberts. If Petrino does get kicked to the curb, hope the next coach still runs a system where he can excel. Known the kid for awhile...he deserves a shot. I know he decided against coming to OU after they slow played him and tried to get in late...but it wasn't ego on his part...to the contrary it was character...which in this case...is ironic..

  • I talked with a friend on Friday, who is on some board with the athletic department at Ark, and he says that there is more to come and that firing Petrino is about the only way out. I got the impression from talking with him that Petrino has done something else down the line and now this is just the end of the road. He didn't say what else had happened but he implyed.
