This is an important offer for OU. This kid, Mark Andrews, (2014) a 6'6"-233 TE from Desert Mountain in Scottsdale is probably in the top 20 athletes in the country from my perspective. He is a legitimate 4.5 guy, who has run the 100M and the hurdles for Desert Mountain, one of the best schools in the state of Arizona both academically and athletically.
He is on an equal talent basis with the best TE;s who have come out of HS in the last decade, IMHO. Kid has amazing hops and has a 38 inch vertical at 6'6".
I do know this. Alan (my son) use to work out in the same gym with this kid several years ago before Alan moved. And I heard through Alan that the kid was a big OU fan, and watched every OU game that he could on cable. I think James did an article about this kid before I cam back on the board, but I think it was before the formal offer.
Scary thing about this kid, he is not quite 17.

Anyone who is 6'6" 223 lbs and runs a 4.5 forty is a Keith Jackson scary good type player at tight end. I hope that Alan is right about him and he is a huge OU fan. What are they feeding these kids now days? They just get bigger and faster all the time.
subtract 2 inches and add .3 to all 40 times and you will be right on 99.9% of all hs athletes

And if an OU commit provides times that are real, half this board is all panicked that they are getting someone too slow, regardless of how many offers that kid has
i agree with you about how people panic.
There is speed and there is football speed. The fastest spinters in the world out of blocks in track shoes and track clothes on a track surface focusing on 40 yards instead of running their fastest at 100m according to a scientific article were guesstimated at 4.1 or 4.05. So all these olny run half a second slower than the fastest athletes in the world? I think true 4.4 - 4.5 speed is very fast. I hope our coaches look for more than just a 40 time ( I am 100% sure they do) The 40 time is just part of the puzzle package. College basketball coaches pad the heights of players all the time Waymon was listed as 6'9" but really was 6'7" but he could PLAY same with Billy Sims 4.5 guy that had that BURST. Herschel Walker was a track guy who had great top end speed but in sprinters they actually train to run their top speed at the end of the race not at the beginning, where football players train to be at top speed in 3 to 4 steps, so Wlaker was fast but it took him longer to get to his speed that Sims.
I have a coaching friend who coaches college and he says they get 4.6 guys all the time that play FASTER because they are smart football players and 4.5 guys that play 4.7 or 4.8 because they are lost and take bad angles. Boz looked fast because he was always taking great angles ( roids might have helped a bit huh?)
I always loved all those powerful Nebraska players in college with no testing would flame out in the pros...hmmmmmm where there was testing.
