the part about the player recording the conversation with Martinez and turning it over to the compliance officer is not especially encouraging. while he may have had a right to to do such a thing, you have to believe there will be hell to pay for that.

Not like we will ever hear of it, but I'm curious about the coaches response. Kids come to Oklahoma to play at a premiere school, prepare for the next level and you complain about working in the off season? alrighty then.

The coaches and strength staff are the culprits here, not the players. Do you think BOb is gonna try to make any of them run stadium steps til they puke? :-)

SeriOusly though, what kind of consequences are there internally when the coaches break the rules like this?

We wondered where the extra scholarships might come from if we oversigned in '11 or '12. There's your answer. I guarantee whoever taped the coaches and turned them in will not be a part of the team next year. No coaching staff would put up with that.

The Tulsa World had a blurb - "The Sooners reported to the NCAA that four assistant coaches had improperly questioned players about their lack of participation in voluntary offseason workouts, and that some players had been working out more than the allowed eight hours per week."

I always thought that the rule was that if you don't workout in the voluntary programs, the coaching staff is voluntarily not going to play you.

Scholarships not renewed? Maybe the coaching staff had the numbers not being renewed in mind when they oversigned.

My guess is that the players involved are possibly lesser players that know that they won't make the team anyway. OU has had players that didn't play all that much early and then blossomed later in their careers. Pryce Macon for example.
