OU No.1 in Coaches Poll, No.3 Media

Sooners remained No. 1 in Coaches Poll but dropped behind LSU, Alabama in AP

  • I can remember a time when you had to lose (or at least really struggle for several weeks) before dropping in the polls.

  • Yea.... It is really stupid that we drop another spot yet win another game.... A win is a win.... The problem is that if a win is not good enough, the score, isnt big enough, the defense didnt play to thier liking... To thier standards, well by God just rate them lower the next week... What a joke!!

I think that was before the AP didn't count towards the NC. Now it's basically irrelevant, and the writers have to justify their existence. I say that somewhat tongue in cheek, but I can also see why they moved Alabama up after the way they manhandled FL.

The Alabama/LSU game will settle a lot in the polls. As long as OU stays undefeated, and Wisconsin and Clemson slip up somewhere, OU will be fine.

  • OU will be in the NC game as long as they remain undefeated. Wisconsin or anyone cannot move past Oklahoma considering their opponents. OU will have to beat Texas, ATM and OSU. Either LSU or Alabama will be eliminated by playing each other. If OSU or Texas beats OU, that is the only thing that will open the door for Wisconsin.

  • Have to wonder if that is the power of ESPN and the overinflation of the SEC. Although I have to admit that their recor is hard to beat. Big XII has a real black eye perception wise right now. Only way to change that is to win on the field when it matters.

  • We need our opponents to keep winning and holding rankings, and then beat them to help us with the BCS.

Good thing Texas isn't sucking; beating them helps us. If OSU keeps up, we'll get a lot of attention at the end of November. 'Course, we have to win out.

This +1000 The media is always looking for a story and this years is two teams from the sec in the title game so they can hype their leagues they carry. The writers are just led by what the tv people spew.Win is all OU needs to do.

  • The AP poll doesn't count in determining who goes to the BCS NCGame. The press is fickle..they have their flavor of the week!

  • When the teams that pass you have looked as good as they have then it's going to be expected. Bama and LSU look like the two best teams to me so far

  • This doesn’t surprise me at all. The only question I had was if Alabama was going to jump LSU also and if they did would LSU stay ahead of us. But if you would have listened to the SEC talking heads (ESPN) it wasn’t hard to tell that to a person they had LSU and Alabama ranked as to two best teams in the country.
FSU mistakenly got downgraded for the loss after they played us. I guess they didn’t see the news that we knocked like 8 of their starters out for their next game. Those 8 players knocked out of the game don’t include those that were really sore after they met our defense. The talking heads also showed their bias by not giving our “D” any love after that game.
Much to their displeasure the voters in the AP are of no consequence anymore. They just haven’t came to grips yet that their opinions are meaningless in the world of college football in this day and age. The fan polls now carry as much weight as the AP and they don’t carry any weight.
When two of the top three teams will face each other sometime during the season it doesn’t really matter in what order they are listed before that meeting. After seeing the Florida game my guess would be that after LSU and Alabama meet we won’t be hearing that much about LSU after that. All we have to worry about is to keep on winning. As far as the BCS is concerned the coaches still see OU as the best team in the country. In a few weeks we will see how the computers see it. Until then I could care less how the pencil neck AP writers see it.

I hope that time has left and never returns, because that approach makes zero sense in that it completely excludes even the possibility that the preseason rankings may have been wrong.

    Matteon

  • None of this matters. Win out and OU is in the title game. End of story. Neither Clemson, Wisconsin, or Stanford will jump the Sooners with an identical undefeated record. It's simple: look at the standings as they are right now and then look at each team's remaining schedule. It's not hard to figure out.

What makes zero sense is to have pres season rankings in the first place.

    Agreed.

  • Somebody remind those stupid AP voters that had OU played Florida and LSU (the two Mighty SEC teams) in Oklahoma instead of on their home fields for the NC we would have won both of those games.
