Mario Edwards sour on OU

  • I read a USA article where Mario said during his vist to OU several players gave him negative comments on the program. He is now looking at FSU, LSU and Texas. Please tell me that we have a chance of getting him.

    .

REPLY: '84, this is one reason we re-cap everything in the Weekend Wrap-up.

Two weeks ago we reported on this with details after I sat down and talked to Edwards in Orlando, Florida. You'll also notice that the WW has a current list of HS and JC prospects that the Sooners are still after. Edwards has not been on that list for two weeks.

If you're not reading the WW, it's a great way to catch up on the weeks events, team news and recruiting.

    Respectfully,

  • He either wants to go party in Austin or go lose at Florida State. So let him. If a couple of players at OU gave him a bad vibe then he is making his decision for the wrong reasons and we don't need him.

  • He just heard that the japs bombed pearl harbor and got POd.

  • Hey 1984, I also heard that Jonathan Miller may leave, you got any info on this?

    boomerblue

  • Concerning Mario, I believe the feeling is mutual.

    CrimsonMarc

  • Remember that ALL WORLD D lineman who choose ut and said similar things, well he was and is a huge bust.
Hes so unknown these days I cannot even think of his name, anyway
OU dominated him these past two years. Kids like this who think they are alll that always seem to fizzle out.
I will take Dom Whaleys of the world before I take a pompus assed spoiled pig of a kid like Mario Edwards.
Hes not only going to FSU for his dads happiness hes going there to party, be the center of attention and be in a conference where there is very little competition.
Its also rumoured he has talked to a realative at Oregon in ref to a sports agent so we will see on that.
Lastly wouldnt it be great Vennables goes to Clemson, fires up that D and they dominate FSU
Blue come on, Miller has been gone for some time now.banghead

  • I know this about Miller.............i was making a point just like the Pearl Harbor reference. By the way, I hear the Fridge is looking at OU as a top three choice as well.

    boomerblue

  • Taking a comment or comments about the OU program out of context (meaning not getting other opinions from other players) and digesting all the information and making an informed decision certainly speaks to a level of maturity relative to other prospective recruits his age.

    Only1Oklahoma

  • Wow.... some of you guys need to look up the definition of sarcasm. Pearl Harbor, J Miller.... I am rarely intelligent, but my best guess is that those are supposed to be funny sarcastic comments.

I know we want information from this board, but in the end, it is meant to be entertainment. BRING ON THE THE SARCASM AND ANY OTHER HUMOR YOU CAN GENERATE. Feel free to throw in a few picture of Babes and virtual booze if such a thing exists. Of course, the best humor is the humor that is directed at Texass and the livestock in Stillwater.

Deca has the right idea(three posts earlier). OU Sports should be enjoyed with Positive Images of Unicorns, Sugar Plums and Smokin Hot Babes with a side of Humor.

    NCJIM

  • Tryn to invoke a little humor for sure.............WAY TOO MANY angry serious folks on this board.

    boomerblue

  • Hey deca............thanks for info on miller.................any word on calhoun or williams? Also, do you think Peterson can get a medical redshirt for another year at OU with his ACL?

  • why do we continue to dwell on this guy and what he has to say? OU isn't for everyone. Let's just see where this guy signs, schedule them and show him what he is missing by playing elsewhere, just like the anonymous Jeffcoat at Texas. What has Jeffcoat, all-world in high school, ever done to justify his hype? Edwards may turn out to be just like him. Let him run his mouth while we go about our business.

    nysoonerfan

  • This is really old news and has been discusses ad naseum. Do we seriously need to re-hash 84'? Do a search and you will see plenty of threads and a lot of commentary.

    albsooner

  • He's just looking for excuse to go tu or fsu, because texass has had more then its share of negativity this year including running off D.White for telling DGB to go somewhere else. Then how does what has happened at OU, running a few bad apples off for not going to school come even close to what has gone down at lsu before mnc.players throwing racism out there, and miles getting into it with oc and telling him if didn't call the game his way he'd be fired the next day. And even at fsu they have had their on crap to deal with this year. SO OU compared to TU,lsu and fsu is nothing that sec does every year.how meny players have ala.,lsu and the rest of sec run off this year to add better players.

    Vansooner

  • Go easy on '84, guys. Given the post count, he's probably new, and therefore hasn't seen all the threads and discussion that the rest of us have.

While we're at it, we should likely lay off Mario, too. We violated a recruiting axiom that holds equally true in the corporate world: Don't let your malcontents get involved in the recruiting process. Every school (or company) has at least a handful of malcontents, but the smart organizations don't let those people interact with prospective additions to the team. We poisoned ourselves on this one. That hardly makes Mario a party-goer, prima donna, pompous pig, or a loser.

    SlicedBread

  • If he thinks he's sour on us now, just wait till he goes to the bonghorns and we beat their asses the next 5 years.

While having a low post count might mean that 84 is new, I have a friend that has been a member of OUI since before they were affiliated with espn and has never posted. He just likes to view the information. BTW Sooner1984, this is old news and if you'd like to see the threads on this you need to go back about 4 or 5 pages at least, to view the all of the contents on this topic.

And, I feel the only thing that Mario may be guilty of, is being too gullible by listening to some malcontents who knew that they wouldn't be with the team next year, so they decided to screw OU one last time. As far as I'm concerned, he has the right to go wherever he chooses. However, I think that had he came to OU, he would have found out the truth.

OU is out unless a major shift happens. He got a "bad vibe" from a player during the trip, which I'm sure was someone impacted or close a player part of Stoops house cleaning. I'm sure the coaching drama didn't help. Go to the last couple of Weekend Wrap Up's which cover this.

Certainly appears to be the biggest recruiting blunder in some time. I'm sure things like this are a little more common than we think...just not as common on a major recruit nor them to go so public. Nothing to do but move on.

Enjoy the sarcasm from the board, and don't take it personal. By the way, did anyone hear that Brent Rawls might have fallen out of the back of a truck???

Agreed and I don't blame Mario. When you are choosing between a ferrari and a lambo, etc., it is tough to discern/decide and I cannot blame him for eliminating us after a negative visit. It should serve as a good learning lesson. Some believe we should be immune to making mistakes, but the reality is the best organizations in the world are always learning. We aren't excluded from taht. We learned a valuable lesson.

    albsooner

  • Edwards made comments that the things he heard from other players on his visit were mostly negative and that he liked Austin Texas' nightlife more than Norman.

So, of course,t he sour grapes squad on OUI is out in force talking about the kids attitude, that he took statements out of context, the he is immature, and so on, when the reality is that none of the people on the sour grapes squad have any clue what they're talking about. It is what it is.

  • Wants to party in Austin if he decides he doesn't want to be too far from home, away from Daddy.

Great player, but stupid move. I'm sure Daddy isn't too pleased with his choice of words either.

    clenard

  • When you are one of the top recruits in the nation, and in this case the current number one recruit, you are going to have so many options to chose from that the smallest thing can cross a school off the list. In this case, as Sliced Bread stated, we made a mistake by allowing contact with a malcontent.

But to bad mouth him on a board that he may or may not read is counterproductive. As we have seen on many occasions, recruits change their mind at the last minute and surprise everyone with who they sign with. Negative posts can further turn someone away. Now, I agree the chances of him changing his mind back to OU are slim, but are you willing to take that chance? Obviously some of you are.

And for those of you ragging on Jeffcoat, if you watched the whorns bowl game, he is beginning to show signs of the light bulb coming on for him. Again, just because he didn't chose OU doesn't make the kid evil.
