Joe C and President Boren-you better do something!

  • Lots of talk about Missouri going to the SEC. That would really leave us with nothing. You cannot let Texas continue to have their way. Either go to the SEC or somewhere else. This "agreement" with the other schools won't stop UT. The Big 12 can't survive with the likes of BYU, Louisville, etc. Hopefully, you are conducting conversations with the SEC. If Missouri, OU and OSU all go to the SEC-that's your 1st 16 team super conference! Think about it! The Pac-12 courtship was a disaster. Don't blow this one!

  • The SEC announced it's not taking another team. According to Dean Blevins, he thinks it a done deal, because Missouri has no alternative but to stay in the Big 12.

  • screw ut and osu.......leave them to their own vices. get ku and mu and join atm in the sec.
now is the time to get selfish.

  • Mizzou once again is left in the cold:

At this point it appears no one has much of a choice. The Big 12 will live...for another another few years at least. Lets pull in three teams and own the conference!

I'd say screw them and everybody else at this point. Missouri may be stuck for another couple of years, true enough. However, that doesn't actually inspire hope of OUr ultimate goal of gaining conference stability. No way I can see Missouri signing off any type of six year agreement, stipulating to the "grant of rights" that Boren alluded to. If memory serves me correctly, Boren said that conference stability was OUr primary goal, period. Well, based on what's coming out over the past few days, or since the news conference, deductive reasoning tells me we are as far away from "conference stability" as we ever have been. While I'd personally love to see the Big XII remain together, just don't see it happening. I don't care what people say, but losing Nebbish, Colorado, and A&M has really hurt this conference, especially with Nebraska and A&M rebounding and becoming respectable again. Bottom line, I think a conference call should be held between all the remaining schools, and Boren needs to let everybody know that we did the best we could at making this work, but at this point, it's every man for themselves. If that means we go to the Pac 12 or SEC or where ever without Uterus or OSU, or anybody else, so be it. We need to become selfish in this deal and look out for OUr interests, nobody else. This is just not looking good.

  • I think it looks just like it did a week ago. We aren't going anywhere- for better or for worse.

  • I think if everyone signs on the dotted line to the rights agreement, this conference will be good for five or six years. (There's always the possibility that someone will still be unhappy five years from now. IF the right opportunity presents itself, l can see one of the members saying we'll lose a year's TV revenue towards the "greater good".)

The problem is nothing has been signed by anyone. Until every remaining member signs, there's nothing but a lot of talk. Again, it sounds a lot like congressional hearings and debates.

And, just like all along, there is plenty of talk going on behind closed doors that's very different from what people are willing to say publicly. So as Yogi Berra so aptly stated: "it ain't over 'till it's over".

  • So we are a nine team conference calling ourselves the Big 12. Two of the best teams in the conference have decided to run screaming for other ground & the other decided they fit in better in the pac whatever. So now we are stuck in the Big 9 with two tough teams & the only team that could bring back some prestige, ND, has told us to go fly a kite. We could easily be in a better conference but our school president is so damn concerned with the rest of the teams in the Big 9 that he won't make a move until he knows every one else will be ok. Time to look out for ourselves & let things fall where they may.

  • COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Commissioner Mike Slive tried to temporarily quell the "enormous speculation" about whether -- or more likely when -- the Southeastern Conference will add a 14th member to join Texas A&M.

Slive said Tuesday, a day after festivities welcoming member No. 13, that the SEC presidents and chancellors are not currently considering any other schools for admission and that Texas A&M was the only one to submit an application. He reiterated that he anticipates having just 13 members in 2012-13.

Slive declined to discuss what would make a potential 14th member appealing, saying "we'll just see how the future plays out."

He said he didn't know if there was a specific deadline when the SEC would need to add a 14th member for next season.

Slives statement that he didn't know if there was a specific deadline when the SEC would need to add a 14th member for next season is an open ended statement that infers to me that a 14th member is still viable for 2012. Statement is similar to the one the SEC made immediately prior to aTm's application for membership. Probably a mechanism to avoid any potential legal issues that might arise.

IMHO I can almost guarantee that an OU application to the SEC would result in an immediate acceptance for 2012. OU is not going to make that application but to open discussions with the SEC and announce it to the media would put pressure on Texas to make some concessions regarding their Longhorn Network. I would like to see Boren play that card.

The problems we face today exist because those that work for a living are out numbered by those that vote for a living.

Concessions aren't good enough. Texas has not, is not, and will not be willing to give up on anything significant. I would have loved a move to the PAC, but my preference has always been to the SEC. The 'football culture' in Oklahoma definitely resembles SEC teams as opposed to PAC teams.

We shouldn't play any cards, we should just leave.

  • The rumor out here in the west coast is that the "turning down" of the Big 12 schools was about OSU and tejas...they see OSU as well as TT as relatively weak academically (TT was actually on academic "probation" as an institution due to poorly designed and implemented graduate programs) and they absolutely do not want to deal with the LHN and Mr. Dobbs. They did, however, want OU......

  • This is going to take time to sort out. You cannot believe anyone's statements. We have an agreement to share TV money but maybe not everyone has agreed to that. The SEC said they would not take A&M without the Big XII schools' agreement not to sue. Baylor threatened to sue. The SEC didn't get that agreement but they have still accepted A&M. Now they are "not talking" to Missouri. And A&M is the "only school to have applied". Deloss Dodds is myopic about LHN income and possibly delusional. OU is bound at the hip with osu. Baylor is willing to be ut's lap dog. Texas Tech apparently has a terrible academic reputation and osu's isn't a lot better. We don't want to be a member of the American Assocation of Colleges. (And I fully support that position.) Kansas State and Kansas are also joined at the hip ask why basketball isn't important. And Iowa State has no where to go if the Big XII goes away. No one really wants their wrestling program. A quote from the movie "Bull Durham" sums it up pretty well, "We're dealing with a lot stuff here!"

    HTown

  • UT's strategy seems to be to destroy the B12 by forcing one school at a time to leave....until there are only a few morons left....and then UT will go independent with their LHN. Seems to be working.

  • Initially I was in favor of going PACxx but must admit I was getting cold feet a couple of days before it went down the tubes, mostly because I thought Texas recruiting would be improved if we went SEC, and really put UT out on an island with no good choices. It also would have killed the LHN. Now, the Big whatever we're in coddles the thought that each team should develop their own network. The school network pairing the PACxx used was a great idea, but deep down I'd rather play in the SEC. We'd be right at the top of that league in contention for division and conference championships every year. I really doubt that either division was any harder than the Big12 south division has been the last five years--we seemed to do well there.

I've yet to find a man that hasn't at some point or another been due some criticism. The man doesn't walk on water and as yet I haven't heard he has changed water into wine. He is a person and he can and does make mistakes. Blind loyalty isn't all it's cracked up to be. I'm not saying he hasn't done a great job at OU but lets not put him above reproach.
