Jermie Calhoun

  • Is it true he is leaving the program?

    Matteon

  • Wow...that would be a bummer but not a huge surprise. There was an obvious bottleneck at RB and a departure or two was probably expected.

  • Yes its true. I don't understand these guys quitting after the season has already started. Stick it out , see what happens and transfer at semester.

    My thoughts exactly.

  • I heard it a few hours ago on Tulsa WWLS. I understand...they are very good RBs and chances are they won't take a meaningful snap all year. We have Whaley, Clay, Finch and Brandon Williams in front of them. We have Alex Ross and Daniel Brooks coming in (who is playing RB right now which is why I mention him because he CAN play RB).

Anyway, it makes sense to me. I mean I know what you're saying because I was raised in a time when my old man taught me you do NOT quit anything, but I can see their point too!

  • These kids are football players. They want to play, and they feel they can be major contributors in the right situation. They've just concluded that it isn't going to happen for them at OU. As with JM, I wish this kid a bright future wherever he lands.

  • Okay which one of you turds gave me a down vote? Now then be a man and articulate why! Is this a "revenge" down vote? All I said was WWLS broke it hours ago AND I can understand them not wanting to sit behind FOUR other RBs and potentially SIX next year....does that make you cry?

Or was it because my father taught me not to quit? Just curious....

  • OU's depth at RB is sick. Ross will be the only RB in next years class.
Good luck to Jermie, he runs very hard. Looked good in the Oklahoma drill.

I didn't down vote you but why do you even care? I get down voted for stating some things that people don't agree with and haven't ever lost an ounce of sleep over it. In fact, I hope someone down votes me for this post. Thank you in advance!

  • You make a good point, but I was wondering what the "logic" was, or if someone wanted to debate, but yeah you're right!

    hooknladder

  • Before any RB's transferred we were going to only give one scholarship next year. Now , with 2 transferring does that mean we are going to give 2 more scholarships for RB's

I hope not. I hope those schollies get redistributed to other positions. Even with the transfers, we'll have five scholarship RBs next Clay, Finch, Whaley (I assume he'll get one), Williams, and Ross. Five is plenty.

Whaley should get one, but will graduate after next year (2013) and Clay & Finch would be eligible to leave, but shouldn't.

We should only need one RB in the next two classes unless someone else leaves or gets injured.

Wasn't me, but I do find it very ironic that you are complaining about that when you downvote me all the time for reasons that only make sense in your head lol

  • Danzell Williams is also a RB. I'd be willing to bet eventually Danzell moves to DB especially with Ross coming in next year.

    All Day OU

  • Isn't Daniel Brooks a RB too, or is Danzell Williams the only one? With those designated as athletes its hard to keep up. Sterling Shepard is a Ryan Broyles type receiver I think.

  • What's really going to change at the position for either kid?
Better that they announce earlier so the coaches know that what our numbers are recruiting wise. This allows OU to keep recruiting some serious blue chip talent.
They are helping OU by announcing early. I bet the coaches help in their transfer process.
Calhoun's knee injury probably didn't allow him to even consider leaving after spring ball. He needed to rehab that knee at OU rather than transfer to an uncertain medical support situation.
Remember we have 5 RBs Clay,Whaley, Finch,Brandon Wiliams, and Danzel Williams. Alex Ross is en route.

  • One of the toughest things is when an upper classman gets "over-recruited". I believe that both Jonathan and Jermie fall into that category. When you consider Clay, Finch, Williams and Whaley coming in after them, it just shows how our strength at the running back position is tremendous. They saw Whaley in action. Those two guys understand that the four new guys fit into our system better. They see they will not get playing time. It happens every year in really good programs. Good players leave. I recall one time in the past when we lost a really good prospect that couldn't get playing time. Everyone was concerned when he left. Bob said, "We just lost a third team guy. We will be OK. " He was right. Well, we just lost our 5th and 6th best backs. All these young guys will get more time practice and playing time. It was bound to happen.

  • I'm not sure what position Brooks will play. Shepard is a Ryan Broyles clone yes sir you are correct.
