Jeff needs to resign after the Big 12 Tournament

  • I had suggested OU go after Steve Lavin when Capel was hired and i was pretty much dismissed. I think we would gladly switch with a resurgent St Johns right now.

  • Come on now! Five years is enough! His only decent years were with Blake. Anyone could have done that. It is time.

  • He caught a "bad break" with Gallon, Warren and Mason-Griffin?

    surrenderlol

Last time I checked, one of the many things a coach is responsible for is due diligence on recruits, which is one of the many detail things that Jeff hasn't taken care of sufficiently.

    Bringing Jeff back is inexcusable.

  • I hope everyone is giving max effort at their jobs today!

2 months ago the most prominent OU Alum Basketball booster told me Joe C. told him Capel had thru 2013. This guy is if I could question anybody about the Capel coaching situation this would be who I would select. Certainly it is not Gospel but telling. He said Joe C. told him he was 100% CONVINCED that Capel had the best chance and bringing us back over anyone and would have every chance to do so. Then he told me based on his conversations with Joe was that he would be very stubborn trying to prove his hiring Capel was right.

  • He caught a bad break with Warren, TMG and TG.

I am getting so freaking tired of this excuse. Capel recruited those bozos!!!! Capel brought those bozos in into the program!!!! Capel let them do whatever the hell they wanted without any sort of consequence!!!!!! IT'S CAPEL'S FREAKING FAULT!!!!!

  • For those of you who seriously believe Capel "will turn it around next year", I just have one question. Why?

In five years, I have seen absolutely nothing from Capel that would lead me to believe that he can actually over-achieve with a group of kids. He had BG for two seasons and was, admittedly, very successful. Without BG in three seasons, he has produced two of the worst OU bball teams in the last 35-40 years.

  • Regular Season Conference Record
First Five (5) Seasons as OU head coach

    Dave Bliss (1976, 77, 78, 79, 80) .... 38-32 (.543)

    Billy Tubbs (1981, 82, 83, 84, 85) .... 48-22 (.685)

    Kelvin Sampson (1995, 96, 97, 98, 99) .... 48-28 (.632)

    Jeff Capel (2007, 08, 09, 10, 11) .... 36-43 (.456) ... 1 game remaining

    ********************

11 - It took Billy Tubbs 11 seasons to lose 43 conference games
9 - It took Kelvin Sampson 9 seasons to lose 43 conference games
5 - It took Jeff Capel 5 seasons to lose 43 conference games.

    ********************

Note: The Big-8 had 14 regular season games. The Big-12 started play in 1997, and has 16 regular season games.

  • John this is a paid board. I'm sure some recruits read it but not many. If they are intellegiennt enough to read this they should know Capel has been horrible in his time at OU. Yes he had 2 good seasons and 3 seasons not in the tourney. He wasn't even close in those 3 years.

We are an embarrassment to the University.

I'm glad Andrew wants to keep him. OU is a good job and pays tremendously well. We could get a coach easily who is better than Jeff. He wasn't exactly killing people at VCU prior to here. Obviously you don't believe are job is a decent one.

Actually we only have to put up with him until Coach K retires because he will be the next coach of Duke according to many 2 years ago.

  • I hope it is not Joe C.'s pride that allows capel another year. If so, his pride is going to be devastated when we get another year of this mess. Not to mention how much financially this is hurting OU.

For the 10th time, ww, tmg, and tiny are capel players. Good or bad, he is responsible for what they bring to the team. Willie was a lottery pick in most mock drafts going into his sophmore year so capel had to know turning pro was an option. Also, when we had all 3 of the team together for 1 year we didn't even make the NIT. So, some people need to quit acting if we had them everything would be different.

As to possible signees being discouraged about coming here b/c of threads such as these. Come on! Gimme a break. That will probably be an excuse capel and some of his followers use if we don't get them. It probably had nothing to do with our losing record, losing conference record, 8 game losing streak at the end of the season. Just these negative threads.

  • I hope Joe C can get over his screw up and pride and call the Crapel experiment quits. Joe C. could be praised if he brought in another coach to overhaul this mess. However, if he makes the mistake of keeping Crapel for 1 or 2 more years, then he could be looked at in a very negative light.

I would bet that if Joe C. had not been at OU for Crapel's hiring and that he came in after the hiring, that he would fire him and find another coach. I cannot see any AD that would want to keep Crapel after what he has done to the program. The only reason I see Joe C keeping him is Joe's pride and the fact that he hired him, which is extremely selfish.

  • Making to much money to resign. He might get ask to leave, but won't quit. Doubt that anything happens. Just goes happily along making over a million a year, lol

  • There will be a very clear message sent at the end of the season - which is coming soon - about the OU administration's interest or lack thereof in basketball.

I hear exactly the opposite of what Peace's saying.

  • Looks like the question is who has the better sources, Soonerpeace or Scribe24? Who we going with on this one?

    Hybl4Heisman

  • I believe he will be back at least one more year, next year it will be make it or break it. I don't have sources, just my gut opinion. Everyone knew this season was going to be very tough and the team probably beat some of the expectations.

    SoonerNatChamps

  • Are we at a point where Joe C either has to give him a "vote of confidence" so he can recruit without a handicap?

    TheBigL

  • I've heard from a very credible source that Capel just isn't a hard working coach, and he's too easy on the players and pretty much lets them do as they please when it comes to workouts off the courts...ie, the inmates are running the asylum. As long as this type of behavior is allowed, it doesn't matter what he recruits, unless that is, he recruits the next Blake Griffin this year. This basketball team and coach are the worst of the Big12. If he returns next year, I don't expect anything different. Then the excusers will say, let him develop this team, they are young...etc, etc, etc....

Peace, what do you know about the guy on the crimson court board, ctsooner? I saw you post on his threads over there, i have no idea who he is, but he seems to have some well connected sources, or at least he sure talks a good game and is good at faking it , but no way he can be making all that stuff up is there? For those of you who haven't seen the guys posts, he says Capel is gone, that its a done deal. I guess we'll know shortly. When you have multiple people all with "sources" reporting 2 different things, who knows what to believe at this point. Whatever the decision is , i just hope Joe C gets it right.
