James........Jaz Trey and Kameel *

  • What would you guess the odds are that Wednesday or Thursday before the opening of practice Friday
that Bob allows these three to join their teammates for the opening practice?

Bob hinted today that he would have a decision on them Wednesday or Thursday before opening practice on Friday. .

    Thanks

  • I'm not James but I think the phrase "snowballs chance in hell" sums it up. In another thread James said that because Trey and Jaz's situation was not academic, but rather they've broken team rules three times each that they're as good as gone. Kameel's was academic and he may be allowed back and the same w/ Hayes.

  • If they took summer school classes at OU (that they paid for) and did well, I would think Bob would take that into consideration. I also think the team should have input as to whether they are allowed back or not. Bob has the final say no doubt but these are young guys and their entire future could be in the balance here (not just football). I think Bob has to make these type of decisions with that in mind. He may still dock them several games even if they are allowed back on the team.

  • Dusty missed awhole season, plus he went to anger management and alcohol sessions. He did everything that was asked of him, then he asked his team if he could comeback.

    Mysterio1

  • Maybe someone can ask Bob this question tonight at the OU caravan. biggrin

I know right from wrong. Wrong is the fun one.

Yes because it happened during the season, but doesn't mean he would of had he did in January rather thnt after the Oregon game. Also who says Jazz hasn't been doing every thing asked of him? Just saying he has a much smaller hole to climb out of than Dusty did.

That's a whole lot of assuming you're doing there.

"Yes because it happened during the season, but doesn't mean he would of had he did in January rather thnt after the Oregon game."

How do you know the punishment was what it was because of when it happened? How do you know it would have been different had it happened in January? Unless your name is Bob Stoops, you don't know this. You're free to make whatever assumptions you want, but it doesn't make any of them true.

"Also who says Jazz hasn't been doing every thing asked of him?"

No one has said that. How do you know he has done everything asked of him? Again, its unlikely you know anything one way or another. None of us know, but, sadly, if you're going to go by history, Jazz has been in major trouble two previous times and managed to get in trouble again... That does not indicate a propensity for learning from his poor choices nor for being 'scared straight.' For Jazz's sake, I hope he has been doing everything asked of him. I hope he has learned a valuable lesson about decision making and consequences. I hope he has learned that class attendance, academics and following all team rules needs to be his top priority. He has a hell of a lot of potential to waste if he continues on the path he's been on.

"Just saying he has a much smaller hole to climb out of than Dusty did."

How so? Because Dusty's offense was criminal? As I recall, this was the first time Dusty had been in trouble with the football program. I don't recall any prior disciplinary actions against Dusty nor any suspensions prior to the incident with his friend. Jazz is a third time offender and its not like those previous suspensions were "oops, forgot to pay a traffic ticket" one game suspensions. That said, Dusty was booted off the team for the remainder of the season. He had to go to thru substance abuse counseling and other steps to earn the opportunity to get back on the team.So its not like his first time offense was punished lightly. Why would you think a third time offender would be treated any easier?

I personally, as a fan, want Jazz back and being productive as soon as possible. But, the coaches know the situation better than I do, and I hope they put Jazz's and the team's best interest ahead of winning games. If Jazz has one last chance to learn a lesson about following rules, prioritizing decision options and "growing up" with this team, I hope the coaches do what's necessary to help him do that.... Because that is going to be more important for him than whether he plays in any number of games this year.

  • As with any "family" there are things the outside folks, don't know about that are factors; I'll trust Bob and the teammates to make the right decisions here, what's best for the program, team, and players.
it is true the outcome will have lasting effects, let's hope they are positive effects and again, I trust the knowledge and maturity Bob has shown he knows how to make the best calls here.
These young guys, if they have paid the price and the team wants them back, .........I would let them, conditionally..........but again, we'll see

  • Being allowed to practice doesn't really prove any point and the original post was edited to say "opening practice" on the end; I believe it originally said "rejoin the team."

But still; if its this hot in Oklahoma I don't see hell being too much worse- snowball wouldn't survive either place.

    hooknladder

  • Well Bob just reinstated Jazz and the others according to James. Right now for practice only, but he didn't say they wouldn't play this season.

If Stoops didn't want them on the team he would have told them to transfer just like he does the others. He's always intended to let them back provided they don't screw up in the meantime.

  • James,

Could we have one of our coaches drop by our forum every now and then to chat with our fellow die hard sooner fans? It would be awsome and you could charge trible for one of those sessions. I bet the subscriptions would go through the roof. Just a thought.
