James Mike and Brent's contracts?

  • So will both of them be making over 600,000 a year? Can't see Mike making less than Brent with a superior résumé and that's not a shot at Brent it's just fact.

  • I think AZ is paying Mike

  • Is being fired from his only HC job really a better resume' though?

I think they are truly about equal on the market. Mike was being offered DC jobs NOT HC jobs....they same with Brent. IMO.

How many six year stints as a head coach in a BCS conference has BV had just curious? Also I believe it was said that Mike set something like 84 school records at Arizona, but nobody is going to do well long term at Arizona. Also Ohio St or Clemson, which of those is a better program? Not trying to bash Brent, but it's not even close when you compare the two's job history Mike wins in a landslide. Mike NC winning DC and head coach in a BCS conference for six years, Brent not a NC winning DC, not a head coach in a BCS conference for six years and was recently demoted in favor of Mike causing him to look around at his options. So saying they are the same is pretty laughable.

  • Of the two, I believe that Brent is a much better recruiter. I really hope that we can keep him. When the well becomes dry, we will know the worth of water!

In my mind, he has been (and is) our head coach-in-waiting.

Of our current staff, BV would most definately be the next head coach to replace Stoops. When Bob verbally agreed to the UF job, he assumed Mike would replace him. Boren is not going to hire Mike.

  • JMO, I think it is only MIke and Brent's business.

If Stoops leaves BV will not be the next head coach at OU I promise you that. I'm not saying Mike will either, but it won't be BV. I also don't buy what your implying that Bob didn't goto Florida because Boren wasn't going to hire Mike if that was the case he would have just took Mike with him to Florida. I don't see Boten taking a chance on an unproven coach when Bob retires things are much different than they were when we hired Bob. Going out and getting a proven big name coach would not be a problem for OU right now and probably won't be when Bob retires.

  • Besides being Co-DC's Brent is also Asst Head Coach. I've never heard of Co-Asst HC's before so I assume Mike does not share this position too.

In actuality Bob wanted to go back to Florida and Mike just like he has told every media person and others he was going to come back to OU for months also told several Bob was going to Florida. Switzer told me on Friday night at Othellos Bob was out of here.I told Switzer he should take Bob's place as Bowden was doing so well at FSU so could he. Switzer told Blevin's who knew of Bob's tremendous friendship and loyalty to Jeremey Foley the AD at Florida. Bob's relationship with Joe was lukewarm the first few years. Joe was instructed by Boren in January to sew Bob up after his first year. In late August before the season it still wasn't done. Bob called Boren and ever since he only deals with Boren on contract issues as Boren took over.

Bob was indeed going to Florida and he thought if Mike would get the job here as Bob was not taking the staff with him. Spurrier you see was not taking the Florida staff with him to the Redskins as he needed a staff with familiarity of the teams in the NFL. Stoops agreed to keep Spurrier's staff at Florida and leave his staff here with Mike helping Mike secure the job. It didn't work out that way as OU agreed to interview Mike but would open up a national search because the program was now very appealing. Faced with now making the commitment to Foley to keep Spurrier's coaches and now his staff in limbo and all wanting to come with him to Florida he decided to stay.
