Is UT Manipulating the Situation? Another Texas End Around?

  • I don't trust Dodd's & Co...

This guy (Evanston Cat) has been kind of persistent for last several months over at Orangeboods. Below is the Orangebloods link and then below again the other linked article.

"We'll see you in the Big Ten sooner or later Reply
All that is happening is playing out as PBC on the Northwestern board called it. Make no mistake, Dodds and Delaney have been in touch from the very beginning. And UT is defintely interested in the CIC and the academic affiliation with the best research univeresities in the land who alone can be considered peers.

What stopped the marriage from happening last time was the Tech problem. Tech had to have a home. That and the LHN.

Now, Tech will likely have a home in the Pac-16. With OU and Aggie bolting, UT will be relieved of all political burdens.

The Big Ten has worked out the LHN - UT gets to keep it. They just won't share in the BTN revenues. The pie will get bigger for all with the addition though, no matter how it is split (and the math has it working out roughly even anyways - Delaney is also betting that the BTN will get sufficiently large that UT will one day come into the fold).

The same arrangement will apply to ND and their NBC contract. The addition of Nebraska earlier and UT now plus the likely addition of 1-2 schools in the East (we are going to end up at 16) will assuage their national schedule concerns. ND and UT have been talking. And the idea that if Aggie goes, that they will form a conference together is no joke. The rub is that they will be forming a brand new Big Ten conference that will be unparelleled in prestige and stature. With 6 of the top 10 most valuable programs (our last additions were #3 and #4, we're going after #1 and #2 now), the winningest football programs, Heismans, and national championships.

UT vs. ND in 2015 is circled on a calendar in the Big Ten offices. Noted as this date will be a Big Ten intra-conference rivalry game. Just so happens that these monster additions will come just in time as the Big Ten works out its new television contract, which most certainly will blow away all else.

    Welcome in advance.

  • This theory of expansion has been floating around a for a few days now. I would LOOOOVE to see Texas go to the Big 10. The Big 10 part of the world is dying and everyone knows it. It would really hurt their recruiting as many Texas kids are not going to want to travel to Wisconsin, Minnesota and Pennsylvania for away games..and they will have to travel a lot. The closest geographic team to them will be Nebraska, not exactly vacationland USA.

With OU in a Pac 16 division with OSU, TTU, Arizona, Arizona St etc. the geographic element of recruiting will be much easier for Oklahoma than it would be for Texas if they are in the Big 10.

  • To the original question, it would be shocking if the wHorns were not attempting to manipulate the sittuation. The article presented an interesting theory ... there may be a way in there for OU to sneak into the B10 ... although I imagine that is still a very long shot. I suspect this is really just the wHorns negotiating their way into the Pac.

OU wouldn't get in because there is 0 chance OSU would be accepted to the Big 10.

I agree. The rust belt is dying and it will affect the schools as the states can't afford to continue fund them at the rate they have been. Stanford, Cal, USC, UCLA and Washington are just as prestigious as any in the Big 10. I think someone is dreaming!

  • Interesting theory in the above pasted article. That would represent a significant scheduling change for ut (all the conference theories do, independence is the only one that could be a minimal change). Case in point, look over the past few years schedules for ut, they play very few games outside the borders of TX. That includes conference and non-conf.

  • If the Big 10 were smart (doubt if they are) they would take Texas and Missouri, along with two of these: Rutgers (NJ/NY tv market), Syracuse (NY), UCONN (more eastern tv) or Pitt. And of course Notre Dame is the dream choice. They might be interested if it looks like the Big East is breaking up, with some football powers leaving.

  • I would laugh my you-know-what off if this happened and the Cornhuskers got "remarried" to the 'Horns. Talk about karma!!!! I have a couple of buddies who are die-hard Nebbish fans and they railed long and loud against UT, and how they finally got shed of them. I'd never let them live this down if it happened.

  • They might have to overlay the classic Osborne expression when he learns of an UT move to the Big 10.

Seriously, I don't care about UT any more.

    The Face

Norman/Lincoln, December 1978 After Nebraska stunned the unbeaten and number one ranked Sooners after a Billy Sims fumble in 1978, The Huskers, not the Sooners, were given the automatic berth in the Orange Bowl. But hold everything. The Orange Bowl selection committee decided that a rematch with OU in the Orange Bowl would be the best game possible. The look on Tom Osbourne's face as he was being informed of their decision speaks for it itself.

  • They can do what they want as long as we keep the game. If we lose the RRS, life as I know it changes.

    Deep Red

  • Do what they want I won't care at all.I think both teams will keep our game and that is something I care about.I want OU to stay one of
    THE teams in college football.

    They look smart to me.

Took NU and left Missouri behind. They also have a successful conference network.
