IreallyloveOU, This kind of post has gotten me at least 100 down arrows. Keep up the good work. I agree 1000%.

You've received hundreds of down votes because you are a Longhorn.

  • I'm not sure I see the problem. Our boards best sources say he is a good recruiter, but it's also fair to say he will have to earn new stripes at OU. That will take a few years to evaluate. It's not a mutually exclusive point to say he is a good recruiter but his rep at OU won't be cemented for a few years.

    Kish and recruiting:

1_ Tim is a very good recruiter. He is one of the best west of tejas. However, he had few relationships with areas of OU's focus in recent history. He had few relationships with HS coaches and players in Tejas. 2_Tim has a very different focus than coach V. He is about picking kids who are a little bigger, probably a little better in a school environment, who have good character and mostly, show leadership skills. Tim comes from a background which included coaching at Army, and although he is far from a a "drill Sargent" he really wants kids who will work hard and lead. If you don't have those characteristics you probably won't play for him. The problem is a perceptual one-both he and Mike have to sell OU to west coast kids, and Arizona kids, and that is not the easiest sale. 3_Tim has no hesitation about recruiting lower ranked kids that he has seen and likes as players. And Mike is now the same way. Stars are useful for laymen, but evaluation is imperative for good coaches to be successful. You want to see them play, see them sweat. He evaluates a great deal. 4_Tim will, and so will Mike now, use JUCO players at a higher level than OU is used to. They won't just take any, but you can expct to see them now. They love the maturity that some bring. 5_A lot of Tims work is quiet, and the commitments are often totally unexpected and late. He thinks that there are far too many quality HS football players that are passed over because they are evaluated their Junior year, and catergorized. he thinks that is junk, and so do most good coaches.

I could add more, but i have fish to catch.

I'm still not exactly sure who you are, but man do I look forward to reading your posts. Thanks for all the insight.

  • There seems to be a natural tendency to doubt new coaches ability to recruit, especially on message boards. I remember after Norvell's first couple years, the message boards were calling for his head because he couldnt recruit. In 2012, he pulled the best wr class in OU history. When Kittle was hired, message boards proclaimed it the dumbest hire ever. Kittle has proven to an excellent recruiter as well.

I too wish we had three verbals from 5 star LB's this year, but it sounds like Kish will pay off in time.

  • im not doubting Kish..... Im just not ready to proclaim he is a great recruiter.... now, he's a good recruiter.... see when he was hired, People asked who kish was and so many proclaimed him to be a great recruiter....

I agree give him 2-3 years before we decide...

with norvell, I thought he has always been solid recruiter, although he didnt land, a few #.1's in the country, owens was highly ranked, jarboe was highly ranked, miller was highly ranked from new jersey, ect...

he did land metoyer, stills, and this great class!!

    im more disappointed in Shipp

  • He hasn't even coached a game yet and has had what 5 months to actually recruit?? Not even half a year.

    SoonerSeif

  • As long as he can evaluate talent and help them 'overachieve' in Norman, I couldn't care less if he lands 5 star kid or the 2 star kid that missed all the Rivals summer camps. coffee

Deep Red, No you are an internet tough guy that calls people out that you don't know. That makes you a pussy and a liar. I will meet you any where you like bad ass.

Actually it was you who complained about your hundreds of down votes. I can assure you that I haven't given them all to you. It's no secret though why you continually rack up down votes and are considered by many here to be the resident burnt orange wearing troll.

How about me and you meet up at the Barry Switzer Center. Just show up in your Horn gear and I'll find you easily enough. Tell me when.

  • I hope you are correct canyoneer. I was really worried about this hire. Our staff is no longer the "hot young staff on the block". I really wanted a younger hire. I hope Coach Kish does great! However, what big time recruits has he ever landed?

Not sure what big time recruits, if any, Kish has landed. But look at where he's been: Arizona, Army, Indiana, Northwestern, Ball State. I don't care how good your sales pitch is, you're not going to talk big time recruits into coming to those programs, with Arizona perhaps being an exception.

He has an infinitely more attractive product to sell this time. It will be interesting to see what he does with it.

In the blue hair section? You are funny. Everyone here wants to rip your Longhorn shirt off and you think anyone believes you actually come to OU games?

    Deep Red

  • Red, I didn't think you would be interested.

You will meet me anywhere I like? I like out front of the Barry Switzer Center. I even offered you to pick the time.

Not to your liking? That's what I thought Longhorn blowhard.

    Fail.

  • One more thing about Tim's recruiting. He has a tendency to "flip" recruits from other programs. He made some enemies from doing this but that is recruiting. I would not be surprised if that happens as the season progresses

Nor would I be surprised if he brought in two JUCO lb's to complete this year for him. This year, DJ Simon from Navarro CC or Devante Bonds out of Cali. Also this year the west coast is talent heavy for Db's (and some of those safeties will end up being Lbs because of their size), but it is relatively weak at the LB position.

I do know he has talked to more JUCO Lbs out of Cali, (unlike the high school talent at Lb in Cali this year, the best Lb talent in Cali this year is JUCO) and he likes a HS kid out of Houston who has some grade issues that need to be addressed, and that R. Davis kid that committed to Baylor. I think he is trying to move him over to OU.

And I think there is growing interest in that Carson kid from Oklahoma (Kimmie) but I think they want to see him play in the fall. But that could happen.

  • Hey "I really love OU" why did you choose that name? Sounds like the bandwagon's getting a little hot here; maybe there's some room on the OSU bandwagon? I mean we suck pretty bad and all.....just from reading your posts lately.
