  • Interesting that Auburn spent $39m and Alabama $31m, far more than other schools. Must cost a lot to operate in the State of Alabama. Yeah, sure.

Do these numbers include the coaches salaries, or is this just the players?

biggrinThe SEC has some of the best players money can buy. Many of them I hear have to take a pay cut to go to the NFL. It does look like the folks at ‘Bama are better businessmen than those at Auburn because they are holding about $28.5 million more than they are spending above Auburn. That must be for a slush fund incase Nick starts talking about leaving.

  • So OU spends about 31.5 million on football and mens basketball but 96 million in total. Where does the rest of the money go? Add a few million for women's basketball and then the other sports get pretty inexpensive. It is hard to imagine OU spends 60+ million on gymnastics, track, golf, wrestling, volleyball etc. I wonder if those numbers for football and basketball don't include infrastructure and they have big interest payments on loans that are simply charged to the AD generally.

There are a ton of sports at OU, both men and women. The cost for every team to travel, food and housing with the schedules each OU sports has is extremely expensive. You also have the cost of food and housing in Norman and the charge to the Athletic Department for each athlete on scholarship. Your calculator will whir up a large number very fast.

  • The OU dept of athletics is self sustaining. They are a separate entity from the university.

So far as I know, the university doesn't not pay anything for the athletic department.

Yes, the OU Athletic Department is fully self-sustaining and even makes contributions to the academic side of OU.
