How About this for the new Big 16

  • Correlating TV Market to university, this should be the new Big 16:

    South Division

    - Texas - Dallas/Ft. Worth 5th largest TV market (see Houston), San Antonio 37th largest TV market, Waco area 94th largest TV market, Austin 49th largest TV market
    - TCU - Dallas/Ft. Worth 5th largest TV market
    - Houston - Houston 10th largest TV market
    - TX-Tech - See Texas (to a certain extent)
    - Baylor - Waco area 94th largest TV market
    - OU - OKC 45th largest TV market, Tulsa 61st largest TV market
    - OSU - see OK
    - New Mexico - Albuquerque 44th largest TV market

    North Divisioin
    - Missouri - St. Louis 21st largest TV market, Springfield, MO 74th largest TV market
    - Kansas - KC 31st largest TV market, Wichita 69th largest TV market
    - KSU - see KC
    - Iowa State - Des Moines 71st largest TV market
    - Pittsburgh - 23rd largest TV market
    - Louisville - 50th largest TV market
    - BYU - Salt Lake 33rd largest TV market
    - Tulsa - Tulsa 61st largest TV market

Honorable mention - Memphis 48th largest TV market, UNLV 42nd largest TV market, UAB - Birmingham 40th largest TV market.

This league would have 12 of the top 50 TV markets and 17 of the top 100 TV markets. Not too shabby.

  • Good lord.... someone shoot me. Just end the Big 12 - 3 and let's be done with it!

I mean...seriously people! We have a chance to start playing GOOD teams at home on a regular basis. No MORE Iowa State, Kansas, Baylor or Houston or SM freaking U. Doesn't the Rose Bowl against Ohio State, Nebraska or Michigan sound better than the stinky Fiesta Bowl against UCONN????

    Come on!

    CalvinPaperboy

  • OU and Texas already own the Dallas market. Between the two I think it's around 80% of Dallas tv's.

  • allgonzo - I like it.

I believe that would make for a pretty good basketball league as well.

Well, at least we could continue the existing Big 12 tradition of the North constantly getting dominated by the South.

  • Let's hope that the people making this decision remember that the number of TV sets is a distant second in importance to the attractiveness of the product being televised!

  • The BG XII may exist in the future, but without OU or UT. OSU and Tech will probably follow those two.

  • OMG!

The Big 12 has no viable options left. ND is a non starter and Pittsburg is a geographic outlier that only makes sense as far as TV numbers. Houston and SMU offer nothing to the BIG 12 and BYU is just another Baylor only more successful on the football field.

The only option for OU/OSU, I believe OU will push for Kansas over Texas Tech, is the PAC 12 soon to be 16.

  • I wish not to be in the same conference with the likes of ISU, KU, and KSU any longer. MU maybe. Replace them with the Californias, Oregons, Washingtons and Arizonas. Much better brand of football and superior athletic programs overall.

  • I like Pittsburgh, Louisville and BYU.....I do not like Houston, TCU or New Mexico. Houston and TCU does nothing for the conference, and well New Mexico is New Mexico.

Is some respects I think you are right on. Point being the old Big 12 had a good portion of the best TV markets in the US. PAC 12 here comes OU

  • Hell the Big XXII is struggling to get 3 good schools/tv markets just to make it back to 12! The other conferences are talking 16 and can get them!!

Piss on the fire and call in the dogs and let's head West. We are fighting a battle not worth fighting.
