From Canyoneer

  • I thought I would throw this out for the board sine James is under the weather and things are in a slow mode for a while.

I talked to dad (Canyoneer) last week and he told me that as of that conversation that Tejas is still having issues and since they are OU's biggest rival I thought this was information worthwhile.

    From Canyoneer through his friends-

Tejas is still having offensive issues, and despite the bravado that comes out of Austin Mack Brown is more than slightly concerned. First of all, the kids that have played the best on both their Offensive and Defensive lines are JUCO kids who came in January. That is a good and bad thing for them.

On offense, their left OT will probably end up being a 6'5"-320 kid named Donald Hawkins from NW Mississippi JC who has simply outplayed every 4-5 star OL for tejas. And it has not been close. And the next best player looks to be a true freshman who came in January, named Camrhon Hughes who is 6'6"-274 and has outplayed upperclassman. And they are only 5, maybe 6 deep for starters and depth. And they kids behind them are just not preforming well, at all. In fact, there is a good chance that some of their In-Coming FRESHMAN OL's may play if the 2nd guys don't start performing. He is not saying that they won't, only that they have not to this point. And, as anyone knows, you cannot possibly play through the year successfully with 5-7 OL. You are going to have injuries, it is just going to happen. And Hawkins is a good player, but my father thinks Latu is much, much better.

Interesting that on the DL a JUCO DT has again, outplayed the starters, and is seeing as much starting time as the 5 star DT;s for tejas. The kids name is Brandon Moore, and at 6'7"-335 he is one of the biggest DT's in the country. And Canyoneer wished that OU would have picked him up last year because he considers him a most definite NFL caliber player. He is extremely quick for his size, and is going to cause a lot of trouble for a lot of people. And his outplaying all the Big Star guys, and could be a starter. Again, wished OU got him, instead.

Dad has some good sources of information about things, in general. And, in regards to OU, he has also heard that RJ is playing well, as is Peterson (DL), and that Chaz Nelson is incredibly quick and that he and RJ will make up the quickest DE's in the conference. And he has also heard that Lindley at DE is something which could be more than just a trial for the spring. Kid has talent, and could end up around 245 or so and play DE well. And that B Green at TE is a great blocker, catches the ball well, and that Metoyer is simply "amazing".

And, by the way, Mark got engaged last Saturday and will be getting married in Florence, Italy in October to his little Italian sweetheart doctor, Elena.

Yes. We are in shock. Mark was one of the finest bachelors I had ever seen. He had danced around commitments for years, much to the dismay of his girlfriends (and there were a few, to say the least). But, this has been different. Not sure why. Maybe its the pressure of his work now, or maybe, in his late-twenties, he is just getting older. Mom and my two sisters are totally in shock, and canyoneer is just laughing.

Not to point out the obvious, but a guy could do worse than landing a "little Italian Doctor" ... There are some positives in that description.

  • When my Russian sweetie came to me, she learned quickly to do the upside down horns sign. Learned some bad words (even though she didn't know what they meant ) about the horns.

After all, being from Russia, red is her favorite color.

Best of luck to Mark and bride. They will be happy.

  • To get married in the heart of OU football season.. that must be love. I would have pushed it out until after the season.

I'd be more concerned if they develop a TE and run game.
