Florida State Game

  • This game in my opinion will be one of the biggest road games in Stoops tenure here at Oklahoma. I can see both teams being top 10, maybe even top 5. I will go on a limb and say GAMEDAY will be there and it will be a 7PM start for a national ESPN audience. I know the OU faithful always travels well. But this is a game that can set the tone for this year. I know the players are jacked about going to FSU. You gotta think the FSU players are fired up after we sent em to the wood shed last season.

I want to know who out there is already making plans to go to this game? Would also like to know of anyone that has any knowledge of Tallahassee and any good places to hit while there?

  • My family and I are planning on going and making a long weekend out of it. We are planning to stay in the Destin/Ft. Walton Beach area. Unbelievable white beaches...close to Tallahassee.

  • This game will set the tone for the entire season. The expectations are so high next year that if we go to FSU and win... I think we'll win the rest of the games. If we lose to FSU, I think we could drop another game or two.

It is probably the biggest non-conference road game in the Stoops era. Bama was big but they were an OK team that year. FSU has loads of talent. I think they return their entire oline which is huge for them as they'll be breaking in a new QB. Don't know much about Manuel. If we go to FSU and Landry has a stellar game, it will vault him into the top 3 for the Heisman Trophy. It is a MONSTER game.... and FSU will be ready based upon what we did to them last year.

  • I'm planning on going, retired a couple of months ago. Wish OU would complete the rest of there schedule so I would know who, when and where we play the week before and after. That will depend on how long of a trip I make it. Planning on driving and making a journey out of it.

  • IMO at FSU and at osu look the toughest right now.

  • At least we have a bye week before the game...that will help a lot.

  • I'll be there. I live in Tally and work for FSU. It is a great environment, for those who have not been to a game at Doak. They will be pumped. FSU is riding high around here after that #1 recruiting class.

  • My wife and I are making plans to attend. Right now, plans include flying into Panama City, driving to St. George Island to spend a few days before the game, getting to Tallahassee on Thursday, golfing with friends at Killearn Country Club on Friday, attending the game, driving back to Panama City the next day and flying home to Dallas.

It will be a bit of a homecoming for me. I lived in Tallahassee for about five years, but that was 15 years ago and enough has changed that I wouldn't be a good one to ask for entertainment suggestions. My favorite bar - Rooster's Colorado Club - burned down many years ago, and my favorite wing place is also no more.

When I first moved there, Doak Campbell Stadium was little more than a large erector set (think OSU). In fact FSU pretty much did the same thing OSU did to upgrade. Much more impressive now. Tennessee Ave. used to be the main drag near campus, with a bunch of fun nightspots. The thing I loved about Tallahassee was the live oaks and canopy roads, and of course its proximity to the beautiful white sand beaches not too far away. Beach season winds down after Labor Day so the beaches shouldn't be crowded, especially St. George Island, but it'll still be beach weather.

It should be a good trip back. I'm very much looking forward to it.

  • I'll be there with 3 others. Flying to Orlando on the Wednesday before the game and will be doing Universal Studios this time. Before the Miami game we did a week at Disney World. Will drive up for the game on Friday evening and will be flying out of Jacksonville on Sunday about noon.

Will be staying at the Hotel Duval in Tallahassee where the rates have tripled since I booked my 4 rooms on 9/26 while at the airport after the Cinny Game. That's how long I've been planning this.
