Enough of "The sky is falling stuff"!

  • We will start the fall drills with Kenny Stills and Trey Metoyer. If Stills can equal his freshman year, he will regain star status. And with the newcomer Metoyer, Stills is likely to return to single coverage and will star. Metoyer is destined for the NFL, barring injury. The kid showed plenty in the spring. Make no mistake about Trey. He is a stud. Throw Sharp, Woods and Neal into the mix and you have five really good kids. Granted, Courney is a question mark with the grades. But if that kid shows up in the fall, he will be fast tracked and it will give you six WR's like we have never had. It is entirely possible that either Finch or Clay will moved to the slot. The same could be said about Joe Powell. But I think one of the new freshman will be singled out for slot duty. For those of you who wish to worry, be concerned about the OT's on offense and the DT's on defense. Those guys will determine our season.

  • I couldn't agree more, I'm not worried about those receivers losses in the least bit. We will be loaded at receiver, I know they haven't played a down of D1 football but they have a QB that will be throwing darts at them so that is going to help 100 times over. This is why those to come play at OU since they were told they would have a chance to play early if they were good enough. I think this will help us tremendously in recruiting as well since kids will see even at OU you can come in and play right away.

So you're saying we can't in ANY way replace those 34 catches? We'll get Jaz back around mid-season most likely. Man to hear some of you its "game over man," "we're screwed." That puts in the Jim Traber camp- is he good company?

You're right. Drop the football program and donate the stadium to the soccer team.

  • Down the hole? Well we were kinda late for tea.

  • I agree...not worried at all about the passing game and actually happy that I dont have to see Trey Franks fall on his face time after time.

  • Htown, it's not that this one deal is causing all the alarm. It's the repeated theme of suspensions and transfers that are happening on a regular basis. Then when it happens it comes with no warning and no real explanation. Everyone assumed that Jamel Owens was a lock to be a star. I think he caught maybe five passes and quit the team. Until a kid does it on the field it's all hopeful thinking. Facts are stubborn things. Stills is the only receiver to have caught a ball in a game. Also, whose the next kid gonna be who decides he needs to be close to his child or leave the program because they aren't getting the love they need. Whose the next guy who is gonna get a DUI, smoke their dope, cut classes, or become academically ineligible? That is what the alarm is over......

Ever major program deals with these exact same scenarios, there is nothing you can do about it. Except relax because there is another great player to replace each one that leaves or gets kicked off the team.

Define "regular basis". The transfers have been happening lately and have been explained. I feel much better about these WR's than I did about J. Owens. They are more talented. Speak for yourself on that one.

As far as your facts cliche'. If you want to get logical, then you know no more than anybody whether this corp of WR's are garden variety freshman or the second coming of Isaac Bruce, Torry Holt and Az-Zahir Akeem.

I tend to be an optimist when the facts lean the way these do. That is, OU signed the undisputed #1 WR class in the nation. Watch the video and look at long line of schools vying for these guys. I also value talent at WR over experience 7 days a week.

Depth is a concern. I grant you that. A couple of early injuries could be a serious problem but as has already been pointed out, there are some amazing athletes at DB and RB that can help fill any voids as well.

I believe as much as anything, OU needs to find a running game and will.

IF this were 1972 and we had 120+ players on the team & our second or third team guys were as good as some teams starters I would agree with you. However we now have a 85 man limit. Every year you see a team lose to some one that they had zero business losing to. You don't have an unlimited number of people who can step up without there being a drop off. I seem to have read more than one post on here talking about the reason for our poor finish last year was the number of injuries we had. If we had guys who could just step up and us not miss a beat we would have been in a BCS bowl instead of the Sun bowl.
