ESPN article on Clemson possibly moving.

  • Getting back to Clemson maybe wanting to move to another conference, wouldn't it be a no no for another conference inviting them without Clemson reaching out first? If say the Big 12 offered them to join, would that seem as tampering by the ACC? I don't know the rules on this, that's why I"m asking.

  • Jet: Yes your correct thus why no outward comment from the Big 12 is happening. Same deal as A&M. The rumor is Luck's dad is heavily involved as WV is not officially in the Big 12 yet.

  • The list below adds quality teams, solid intros to recruiting grounds, and a lot of TV markets! I am ok with 12-16 teams.

    1. Notre Dame
    2. FSU
    3. Louisville
    4. Ga Tech
    5. Clemson
    6. Rutgers
    7. Cincinatti

  • Notre Dame does not want to give up their TV contract with NBC. Virtually every ND student is on some type of scholarship. That is possible because of NBC. They will not join a conference in football until the TV contract issue is resolved.

  • Florida State = Florida

    Clemson = South Carolina

GA Tech = GA, specifically Atlanta. Delta Hub (we've already got the American hub)

VA Tech = Virginia and the DC market

ND = almost everywhere including Ireland and the Vatican

These schools are an interesting collection of Football powers and TV markets, not to mention, it really aligns against the SEC. Excellent geographic footprint, the only piece missing is North Carolina. I wonder if NC State or Wake Forest will join the conversation.

If our OU Network kicks off next January, I bet ND is paying close attention. I think they only have a couple of years left on their NBC deal.

NC State would be easy to pick off, IMO. But I don't think they deliver much value. They're not particularly beloved, even within their own state. Not with Wake Forest, Duke, UNC, even schools like East Carolina/Davidson all competing for eyeballs. I will say this: it's remarkable that a football power hasn't been able to establish themselves for any amount of time from the state of North Carolina.

    Stuck in Mexas

  • I'm originally from Greenville, S.C. which is 45 minutes from Clemson. Love the school and grew up a big fan as a kid. But Clemson brings absolutely nothing to the table as it pertains to tv audience. They have a very limited small market in that state which is tiny. Further, I highly doubt Clemson will want anything to do with the Big 12's academics. We have some of the lowest standards in the country and their's are off the charts. They would lose millions in academic money and would be profit sharing with us in athletics while not bringing anything to the table tv contract wise.
