short answer? He didn't handle the stress that well at UK, which relapsed into drinking. We aren't as prestigious as UK, but our fan base can be just as demanding to succeed. I do not want a role model for young kids be an alcoholic that chases co-eds.
I vote for Billy G. OU needs a winner and he also has had success in the Big 12.
I don't want Stephens. He had a great team last year that he inherited. He had most of that team back this year and they barely made the tourney. How many coaches at mid majors who have a stellar tourney then take bids at a bigger school turn out to be the real deal? Right now I can't think of anyone other then Thad Matta.
You guys who wouldn't take Paris Hilton are nuts.
hooknladder said... (original post)How could anybody seriously put Billy Gillespie out there? As was said above: 1) He couldn't win at Kentucky (should tell you all you need to know) and 2) Alcoholic single party animal who does anything he wants. (Translation: more baggae than Paris Hilton on 3 month bender as CrimsonMarc said above.)

It would be awesome if OU was fortunate enough to get Gillespie.
1. I'm not concerned about his performance at Kentucky because I know he can recruit the heck out of Texas. If he goes to OU then only Kansas and Texas will be on par with OU on Texas kids.
2. AAU coaches love him.
3. His past alcohol issues are a concern but from all indications he is a changed man.
You are missing the forest for the trees.

My preference, in this order:
3) Buzz Williams
If we can't do better than these 3, then firing Capel was a bad move.
If we doubled her pay, maybe we could talk Sherri Coale into doubling her duty and coaching both the women and the men. She would definitely get the attention of the men roundballers, and they would no doubt be motivated by her. Besides, her recruiting would be off the charts.
sounds odd. but Scott Sutton would be great. Wins and runs the ball. Great recruiter to a tough school. He is also a closet OU guy.
watching Saint Mary's, how bout Randy Bennett? Has no Oklahoma/Texas ties but his Saint Mary's teams have been very competitive and at some point he has to want to go to a bigger program? He could help OU recruit Cali and he seems to have a pipeline to Australia.
its a pipedream, cause why would he leave, but how about Mark Few? I would be happy with Joe C backing the Brinks truck up to Spokane and getting a guy like Few. The only way he leaves is because he is just run his course at Gonzaga, but he is in talks at all the top jobs every year so there is pretty much now way this would happen, but you dont know until you ask.
Tony Bennett at UVA. he was a young up and comer a few years ago at Wash St. and now he is keeping his head above water at UVA. I mean he is in the ACC, what is the best UVA will ever be in that league? 4th? maybe 3rd? I think it would be easier to make OU the best team in the Big12 than make UVA the best team in the ACC.
