I do not understand you people, OU just won ten yes ten football games this season! How many teams won ten?????
It is a good thing, IMHO...there needs to be a sense of urgency.
Among those ten wins, how many were against quality competition? I'm not too fired up about beating up on ten crappy teams and losing every time we play someone good. That's a great season in Lubbock or Stillwater but not in Norman.
Nice initial post. Describe our ten year history and then use it to show your point about our decline. Kind of like statistics, you can can make them say whatever u want. If people can't see through your attempt at persuasion, it is because they don't want to. Glad your a mediocre donor otherwise we might be in real trouble. As far as everyone crying about a mobile QB. LOOK past the end of your nose. Bell, Thompson, Knight, Cody are all mobile QBs, we have to hope they can sling it like Landry to go along with running. We haven't gone to a mobile QB because we have had Bradford and Jones. Now we will. Bob has been recruiting in this direction for several years now, even the QB Bradford beat out Keith Nichol was supposed to take us in that direction. We haven't because Jones and Bradford were two of the best throwers in the history of college football. So can we stop with the mobile QB cry now? All of u will be saying I told you so next year like the coaches finally listened to you, but they have been going in that direction for years.
You have to know Bobs history, he went to the spread because of trying to defend Kentucky when he as at Florida. He has always had trouble defending mobile QBs so he is trying to go in that direction but he could not until Jones left.
I guess he could be like you and ignore empirical data because he really wants to believe that everything is OK.
Over? Did you say 'over?!' Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go! Come on! What the f**k happened to the Sooners I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? 'Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Kboz, we might get in trouble.' Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Mack, he's a dead man! Snyder, dead! Gundy...
Or more like you and look for anything that says it isn't ok? I didn't say all was OK, just because I am not crying doesn't mean I think everything is ok.
1. Why bother with a backhanded compliment...it undermines your credibility.
2. Didn't use statistics...so hard to manipulate what isnt there.
3. True, people can be stupid...especially those who try to defend what happened last night.
4. If a five figure donation is mediocre then so be it...I give what I can. Tough economy.
5. I have a small nose...but if Bell, Thompson, Knight or Cody are RG3 or Johnny Football mobile then that is good news, but I haven't heard that. Good players though and hopefully they will make a difference.
6. Jones and Bradford never won a crystal ball. Jones is good, but was never close. But I do remember a slow QB with a bad elbow named Heupel winning one...point...arm means little...intangibles are important to, plus a good defense.
7. Perhaps when you are hanging with Bob you can learn more about his history that all of us never had heard before in the 5pm broadcast.
OU's run blocking has actually improved noticably over the past few seasons. This season, it was actually pretty good, especially when you take into account injuries.
Brennan Clay's YPC in 2012 - 6.0
Damien William's YPC in 2012 - 5.4
Trey Millard's YPC in 2012 - 6.0
Compare that to 2009 and 2010 where Demarco Murray, who was just a great back and has done well in the NFL, averaged only 4.1 and 4.3 YPC, respectively. In 2009 the team average was 3.6 YPC. In 2010 the team average for YPC was 3.3. In 2011 the team average was 4.3. In 2012 it was 4.8 YPC (In 2008 the team average was 4.7 but OU ran the ball about 150 more times).
In the CB Clay was 10 for 44 yards (4.4 YPC) and Millard was 4 for 28 (7.0 YPC).
Was the 2012 OL the repeat of 2008? Of course not, but it was a lot closer than people seem to think, especially considering the injuries. Were they pretty good at run blocking? Yes.
There you go again. Throwing facts and stats in the face of conventional wisdom.
Between the posters who tend to be the most critical and the posters who tend to be the most positive, niether has any basis to accuse the other of ignoring empiical data because both are equally guilty and hold inaccurate views on the status of the program. The posters in the middle who recognize that there are both issues to be addressed and a lot of things to feel good about are by a wide margin doing the best job adopting the position best supported by the available empirical data.
Nice stats, but its not the yards we make, but the yards we are giving up that is hurting us. Which I assume is the point you are making and did very well.
Never thought a Stoops team would be so weak on defense.

I responded to a post about OU's offense with a reply that talks about OU's offense. While it is true that OU has issues on defense, discussion of those issues are not really fitting in an exchange of posts about OU's rush offense.
Maybe...but if you have a good rush offense then your defense is on the field less and that is important when you dont have a defensive line or linebackers...either way nice information to know.
I wonder if anyone who 'matters' actually reads this board or is everyone on just spinning their wheels to no avail? Can anyone tell me if any of the coaches who are responsible for the recruiting and game planning actually read this board.
"Well...that oughta hold 'em for the next decade or so..." - Barry Switzer
I can't say anything with any certainty, but I find it highly unlikely that the contents of this board have any bearing on anything that goes on within the OU football program.
I sure hope not...if they are reading this Board they are not trying to solve the problem. I think Bob knows what the problems are...here is hoping he "executes" a perfect solution.
WTF? Get a hold of yourself! There is no need to go all Boehner on us. have you seen a shrink lately?
My best friend gave just over a Million to OU three years ago and you can bet I plan on talking with him; no knee jerks, but doesn't need to be; there is enough factual evidence to discuss; like the worst Defense in the history of OU and then we have a LB who has been committed for months, switch to A&M, just for starters; then by their own words they have whiffed on their target must gets in recruiting, over and over and over.........even the announcers talking about the lack of use of Millard; then we pull him out when 1 yd is needed........we play Saunders with a shadow over him and yet sit Finch with no explanation for game after game; we continue to refuse to play the 2 and 3s even with big leads and then in games as this our 1s get gassed and we have no one to "go to"........my gosh, this is basic for a head coach to fix and Bob needs to fix these fixable things..........or explain to someone why not??
Apparently you have never seen Animal House......
