I know that a number of kiddie posters have called for the firing of all of the coaches including Stoops. It is like a video game to the idgets. With the release of Jackie Shipp, the joy of OU Football has somewhat mellowed for me. Sad that a coach that has bled OU Red for the larger part of his life is now being shoved out the door with no fanfare. He doesn't deserve this and I, for one, feel that it could have been handled somewhat more intelligently.
I remember when he was an excitable young man on the HS playing field after committing to OU. He was so very proud to be traveling from Stillwater to greatness in Norman. He gave his all to OU and now he is being kicked in the ass without any fore-warning. One would wish that Bob could get rid of one of his friends that he has surrounded him with. First on the list is that worthless brother of his. That is not how it works. Life goes on.

I don't think anyone has forgotten what Jackie did for OU. If they have, then they need to do some research. Great player, college and pro. But change is not a bad thing. There have been many qualified statements made by people in and around the program, that maybe his head wasnt in the game anymore as far as recruiting. If something isnt working, then you have to make changes. I appreciate what he did and wish him great success in the future. Sometimes a shake up is good for everyone. Jackie will land directly on his feet, find a great job and it might revitalize him.
Now please Bob, go get Thibs from Tulsa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

really ashame.................but something had to happen
hate losing former players
I am truly saddened that jackie will no longer be on the staff. As stated above, he is first and foremost a Sooner, a great coach and a man. I will miss him and all that he brought to the program as a player and also as a coach. Good luck Jackie in all your future endeavors!
I too am sad to see Jackie Shipp leave the Sooners. He was a great player and was more than a coach, but to many players a father figure. I do think some of the spark was gone and the change may be more of a difference of what changes will be made in scheme as well as maybe losing some of the fire to recruit. Recruiting is a young man's game and I can see how it would wear on you as a coach. This is no knock on Jackie, but just some reflection. We will miss him and wish him the best. I also hope Bob hires a young fire eater that brings some attitude. I also think he needs to be black as we need the racial balance on Bob's staff.
The rule of the jungle wins out. This deal is like watching an episode of the Goodfellas or the Godfather. The big boss (Bob Stoops) has to wax his loyal assistants for not following his proper protocol. Even though he is sad to do it, Bob's quest to be top dog rules all other considerations. In the end, it's about the Championships (business) and not personal. Like a Hollywood script..........Shipp, Patton, Martinez, and Venebales are the Expendables!
I am sorry jon12, but yours is the dumbest post that I have ever read.
Wow! I will now go crawl back in my cyber hole and reevaluate my opinions on Oklahoma football among other things.
I'll respectfully disagree with you.
I think most agree more with Jon than you. Pot meet kettle (dumbest).
I really like Jackie. I wish they could find him an administration position while he rests for a year and gets re juvinated
Yes, thank you Jackie. To a great Sooner, best of luck and best wishes.
Ive read it 3 times, im not seeing it....what am i missing??
Really?? And you want to call someone else's post "dumb"?
I guess I don't understand how Patton was given a heads up but Shipp wasn't. Something seems rotten in Denmark. BGBS must have felt severely mislead by the whole Manning debacle is my guess. Couple that with the rumor of insubordination at the Cotton Bowl and it must've really forced bob's hand.
Thanks for coaching and developing the worst DL in Sooner history.
On this board you must agree with everyone or you're wrong.
I have to agree with you major, yours is the dumbest post. As a former OU athlete, I can't believe that some posters are taking this so lightly. If it were your job, you wouldn't be so light hearted. Jackie will be sorely missed.
Have you ever posted somthing positive? I will refrain from a personal attack but please say one thing positive!
Jackie is getting paid for the 2013 season. He gets paid a year to decide what he wants to do next. He is going to be fine. It sounds like you may have some sour grapes because all of your sources were wrong. Or is it your proven affection for the Stoops brothers? Crimson pulled up a previous post of yours that shows your displeasure. But that is your right to your own opinion.
He will always be loved and respected as a player and a coach. I'm sure he understands that this is a business. He has been and is being very well compensated.

From being a player to a coach, Jackie Shipp has and always will be a Sooner. Thank you for all you have done for our program for 14 years it is appreciated beyond words. My best to you and your family Jackie.
Confidence is preparation. Everything else is beyond our control.
A great many of us have figured out BYRLK's tired routine and have chosen to employ the "ignore" feature. No, he NEVER makes a positive post, period.
That's why OU football is finishing behind KSU now. And is even in the field with Osu. We have been too positive and refused to see a problem.
Best of luck, Jackie! Thanks for being a great Sooner!
BYLRK, OU is 8-2 against KSU and 9-1 against OSU in the last 10 games against each of them. Please get a grip.
