One of the questions to Stoops during Friday’s season-wrap interview session was whether he wanted to see Memorial Stadium grow and add more seats.
“No,” Stoops said. “Just a better press box.”
“It'll make it a bigger stadium,” Stoops explained. “They just need to go end zone to end zone kind of like Nebraska did.”
“You look at how great the east side is,” Stoops said, “you have to do something equal or better for you guys, more seating, more boxes.”
Sounds like a good idea to me. Do we know if they have any immediate plans to begin this kind of addition?

I can assure you that if Stoops publicly makes a comment like that then its been discussed. Actually Joe C said last year that the next project would be a new pressbox. I'm sure they'll announce something when the dorms are completed.
It's been a topic of discussion for a while now.
Joe C is very well aware of it and has heard from coaches and several donors about this for at least three or four year now. But, as suggested above, there were other projects in the can that took precedence. I too expect it to be one of the next two or three athletic improvements announced.
Personally, I don't think we should ever totally dismiss another expansion, (i..e. closing the South endzone corners, etc). After all, the East Side expansion is almost 10 years old now.
In my opinion, you can't ever just say, "it's done."
Ok, for those that are spun up on engineering (SP?), what would it take to close off the south end? Would you have to completely tear down the south end and then rebuild the whole thing? Can, or would you connnect what is already there? What kind of time would it take do it either way? If they started it in Dec, could they be done before Kickoff in Sep?
I assume a new pressbox wouldnt be that hard outside of making sure you have adequate support for the addition al weight.
There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a man with nothing to lose.
I think the parking garage is a pretty substantial impediment, is it not?
It's going to be difficult. Plus the fact that I'm sure they will want in done in a nte 9 month completion. But, if we raise the money, it can be done.
I don't care if they close in the S endzone with seats, I hear that is basically impossible. Close it in with offices, switzer center enlargement, locker rooms whatever. Just close it in. For asthetics as well as noise level.
One of the problems with adding seats (closing in) any endzone is that those are not the most desirable tickets to charge premium donor fees. Several years ago, I heard a print reporter say that we had the worst pressbox in the Big 12.
I could care less if the media has better seating accomodations.
I would rather they were allowed to view practice and talk to the players when they want. Our closed doors are ridiculous.
East side is 10 years old and already being remodeled. The Pressbox is gonna happen. Just a matter of money. And the east side is not as great as everyone thinks it is. Poor construction is a lot of the problem.
Maybe Coach Stoops and the administration believe pushing a new press box will let them gain more favor with local media since they have this love affair with oswho. Lol.
I agree but the press box section of any expansion would be pretty small in comparison to all the suites that would be added and in turn, be a huge revenue generator for the program.
I say win another championship first.
I don't see why we shouldn't try to do both.
I like the being able to view practice idea. That would be nice.

if we get a new pressbox , can we have a special place reserved for hoover and jenni......like facing the parking lot
I've been hearing for the endzone to be enclosed since 1970. It aint never gonna happen. Its been pointed out , the endzone isnt where people want to sit.
Joe C. personally told me a couple of years ago the plan was to try to get us to around 90k. They would achieve that by adding length on the north end of the west upper deck. Right now it stops around the goal line. Whereas on the south end of the west side upper deck it stops at the endzone endline. This would make it congruent with the east side that goes from end line to end line. So a small section would be added on to the north end of the west side upperdeck.
Then they would configure the west side upper deck to look identical to the east side upperdeck with a continuous row of suites while incorporating the pressbox into a suite configuration. They can sell expensive seats. You would have a revamped Santee Lounge I suspect and a bunch more suites. This almost exactly what Bob said if you read it.
The two best professional rookies in 2010 and both from Oklahoma City,Oklahoma.
i would love to see the south end closed...and a new box would be nice...
Adding a big pressbox like Stoops was talking about would include a ton of suites, similar to Nebraska. That would add around 1,000 more to the capacity which would put us right around 88k. Pressbox first then hopefully a deck on the north endzone.
