I always considered "Sooner Magic" to be when we were playing a team that was better and we somehow managed a way to win. Not barely beating a team that had lost five in a row while watching our defense do a magic trick by disappearing the whole freaking game.
I didn't see Argo but I get the gist. Funny. I did see High Anxiety and I think that applies. Honestly, a bunch of Longhorns and Cowboys couldn't come on this board and paint a gloomier, darker, more hapless and hopeless portrait of OU football than some of our fellow "fans" do. If Sooner football is no longer a source of entertainment that makes you happy, do something else. If bad OU losses are so personally embarassing to you that they totally overshadow the thrill of the game, perhaps you are taking something you have no control over too personal.
Coach Stoops has to purge malcontents off the team annualy. If you can see yourself as a malcontent fan that only focuses on what is wrong now and what may go wrong in the future, I suggest you change your attitude for your own sake, ARGO purge yourself.

Joe were you happy with the way OU football was being played under Blake? If not you may have been a malcontent?
Funny, I am looking at a football on my desk hutch that is signed, "To Joe...John Blake...OU #1". I remember the times well. I was younger then and took OU losses much harder than I needed to. I wish I could have written myself the post then that I just wrote now.
I don't know where you live in Fla but I've been to the panhandle many times as my inlaws live in Port Saint Joe. As far as OU football is concerned I do NOT expect them to win every game. I do NOT expect them to win the conference title every year of the national title every five years. I believe that Oklahoma is one of the top five programs in the nation and if not they should be. I think teams should be scared to play OU because they know how hard they are going to get hit. I don't expect our defense to stop a team from scoring every drive but I do expect us to make it hard on a team to move the ball. If OU scores 28 points they should win the game! We should NEVER get beat by 28 points especailly when we've had FOUR weeks to get ready for the game. We also should not be making it a habbit of getting beat by that much on a yearly basis like we have three out of the last four years!
On offense I would like us to be able to line up and run the ball when WE want to run the ball. As physical as we are on defense I'd like to see our offensive line as physical. Our passing game coming off of our running game & with the backs we have and the receivers we have we should have teams quivering in their boots. OU teams have always been better offensively when we used the tightend & I'd love to see us use the ones we have. I know Stoops can get the job done but I worry that he is to stubborn and set in his ways to make the changes that need to be made.
Port St. Joe would be about a 9 hour drive for me as I live on the lower East Coast just about an hour north of the Orange Bowl (Dolphins) stadium.
My post was more about how I perceive many fans on this board to be melting down over their Sooner expectations not being met than about expectations being too high. It is a game, a source of entertainment for us. Yeah it stings when we lose unexpectedly and/or badly, but we are still the "fan base" and don't need to bash the coaches and certainly not the players. Let's leave that to the Pokes, Aggies and Horns.
BTW, my post was not aimed at you or anyone in specific. I enjoy well written, well thought out posts like yours above.
I enjoy some of the controversy, too.
Fans that don't expect much don't get much!!!
