Lets look at this upcoming spring and get excited about a new offensive look with probably new formations and schemes
Our defense after a year of experience for Mike and Kish will be better... We have a full roster of players and its time to support these players..
Im on board with talking positive about the future, talk about the exciting opportunity for the coaches to get the right mix and hopefully next year is number 8...
Im supporting Shipp and his coaching abilities hoping he gets a couple of his players to play at high level...
Josh is in his 3rd year now, so hopefullly his play calling gets better, im sure it will
im excited for millard and esp the emergence of our tightends...
Im excited for grissom and nelson and the rest of our young def ends.....
I think its safe to say that we are all hooing Ross turns out to be a stud running back!!
Really excited to see shepard and neal... Saunders getting behind the safeties, woods and metoyer fighting to make their mark on the offense..
How about the qb race? What great talented players battling for that number 1 and number 2.....
is there going to be a new o line coach? if so, i guess how exciting to see if Bob goes with mangino if possible or does he go find a big time coach on the outside??
no more talking about whiffs.... no more talking about embarrassing losses.... im defin on board for more positive conversation.. im not apologizing just I agree with a few that the horse is dead.... its defin time to move on!!
The Spring game isn't that far off. Bell and Knight going head-to-head in that game will be a lot of fun to watch.

tyler there are so many battles..... how about if bell wins then knight thompson for number 2.... a few o line battles as well...
its defin going to be exciting to see the cornerback battle..... the wr battle.... im getting pumped up!! :-)
I think that's great for this team. There's a lot of positions that are open competition. And we all know that will bring out the best in each player.
There's one thing about adding the quarterback run game, whoever is number three is only two snaps from starting. This should really be a fun spring to watch our Sooners.
I can see the QB run game helping the offense alot. I think it will help OUr run and passing game. And I hope it helps keep the defense off the field and keeps the defense sharper. Don't be suprised if Romar playes some at DE. I see OU going 11 - 1 or (hopeful) 12 - 0. I am looking for OU to play a more physicial game. I also feel the defense will be alot better.
ireallyloveou, Since I have responded, less than positively, to a couple of your other post, I want to say thanks for this post.
You are clearly a passionate person who is frustrated like the rest of us. I wish some of the people around my seats had your passion. Passion can be re-directed. Nothing can be done with apathy.
I am excited with what I am hearing about these players. If what we have been hearing about Trevor K is accurate, he may be very exciting to watch, along with Thompson. I think Bell brings energy and a strong will. But, we clearly haven't seen if he can really run the offense. I hope one or more of them are players that Josh can trust to run the team with a full offense and improvise as necessary. This next season, I would love to see a QB that would put enough pressure on the other team's secondary as they move away from pressure, that Saunders can slip loose. Maybe more like RGIII his senior year than Johnny QB. That being said, I hope we don't have to score 50 points a game to barely win. Defense has to be a concern for everyone, including our coaches. I hope what we are hearing from the coaches is real and not just talk. I don't know if excited is the word I would use about our LBs, but I am anxious. I don't want to see the failures on defense that I saw this last season. I plan on making it up and making a day of it, for the spring game, even though I realize it is just a scrimmage. I can only hope that we can be back to most everyone's expectations.

I'm excited about this spring and the upcoming season. Probably more so than in several years. I'll be just fine if OU starts off the season ranked around 15th, which is about where I see them coming in. With the schedule we have this year, I think we could pull off a 12-0 run and a shot at #8. And if this team can make that run, I don't see them losing the NC game. We've been too prdeictable for the past few years. I see the staff mixing things up this season. Boomer Sooner!
Boomer Sooner! #1
2013 will be interesting. I still believe 2014 is "the year".
defense better next year????
well in some respects it can't be any worse
Like u said I don't know if it could get worse. I really think the coaches will come up with something to help get pressure from up front. Does anybody know how many sacks we had last year and where that number ranks?
Your question made me curious too so i looked it up. We had 24 sacks which tied us for 69th in the country.
Good stuff, play on.
My prediction, Grissom wins all conference honors.
I just hope we can blend in some QB draw and some option and also let Millard run with it 15 times a game. Our offense has been far too easy to practice/prepare for and defend against.
Our offense isn't the problem. They score point. Yes there are some things they could do better like run the ball witch would help the d some, but for the most part they do what you ask a offense to do, SCORE POINTS......
I agree. Excited about 2013 as OU breaks in a new QB with a run game, and works on rebuilding a D that was ravaged in the 2nd 1/2 of 2012. The early matchup with WV is scary, road against ND, and late road games with OSU and KSU make for too many potential losses a new QB and a young D. OU should be a much better team in 2014 with an experienced QB and more mature DL, and hopefully upgraded LB core.
2013 however will be fun. New things and possibilities can spark change which is needed and think everyone agrees on that. Excited about the new season and can't wait to spend Saturdays in Norman this fall.
Thank you..... Its defin time to move on.... According to some Im immature, unemployed, uneducated, im not cales friend, im a loser OU fan with no clue what so ever, Im the worst OU fan there is, all based on a few critical opinionated view points I have... Not 1 Time have I ever claimed to know the truth.. ever claim that I know it all...EVER said I was right others are Wrong... I just gave an opinion on a few issues that most have... I also have a different definition of " great" than some...,
But its time to move on....oh yea im on meds than off meds, than back on meds..... lol!!
its all good!! I understand the replies and know that many do not agree with a half empty approach at times... It shouldnt result to complete rudeness or down right cruelty...
Whats funny, actually what is really sad is the fact that so many have said they would be embarrassed by me or they hate me or even worse all because I had an opinion.... but truth be told, those who decide to cuss out others, say cruel things to others are no better.... actually those are the people to me who mistepresent the University of Oklahoma, because they have no class....
Like I said though, as I share these messages or a lot of your comments with my oldest son, he understands that having an opinion that goes against the grain brings out the worst in some... I teach him to voice his opinion and believe what he thinks... to not argue in ugliness but try to engage conversation... Some of you fit the mold of why this country is going south... no more talking.. just judging, blaming, ugliness, disrespect and an unGodliness demeanor...
I just shared with my opinions..... is that really worthy of the Cruel cruel comments??
Theres a lot of positive things going on with our football program and I have moved on to spring......
Hopefully some will get a clue how to be civil... For my short comings, and for my few defending not so nice remarks, please forgive me to who I may have said an unkind word... I shouldnt have stooped to that level.... esp over an opinion....
When your "opinion" is going from thread to thread bashing all things OU, everyday, it gets old. You even acknowledged this and posted an apology, which lasted a day then you went right back to creating 28 negative threads a day.
bashing all things about OU?? really?
so when people make remarks, or ask questions I am not supposed to respond? if they ask a question, why I think this or that, im not supposed to answer? everyday?? hmmmm 28 negative threads a day?? Wow 28???
if there are issues.... AND THERE ARE.... even James wrote a post about the issues and negative things... of course most if the pumpers agreed and all the so called naysayers were unbelief that James would come out of his shell and actually state his opinion...
Del vechhio states his opinion like no other constantly which does not ever get a down vote.... perhaps instead of being rude or disrespectful maybe engaging in a conversation would be a better approach?
anyways, its over spring ball is upon us
Sometimes, when it seems there are some real issues with the program, and those issues don't seem to get addressed, it is the right of a fan to question and be frustrated. There was absolutely nothing wrong with becoming alarmed after the cotton bowl. There was nothing wrong with being alarmed over the lack of olinemen they were able to close on. This is not being against the program. It is supporting the program to make sure it it doing what is necessary to stay at the top. That's different that constant criticism for the sake of it. Which I don't believe the OP was doing. jmho.
I think the offense has the chance to be very good. Hopefully with Kistati, Shead, and the new juco kid, they can get more push. If they can do that, be a more physical group to go along with the passing game, they would have a chance to be special, if a qb playes at a high enough level. Because of the competition there, I think the qb position should be good becoming very good as the season progresses.
Defense is the issue. It will make or break the season. It depends on who you talk to in terms of the quality of player coming back. Some say the Dlinemen are more talented. But, they couldn't unseat this last seasons average group. I'm of the hope that, they just need to be the focus of practice, getting the bulk of the reps, turned loose, and as the season moves forward they will get better and better. If they are more talented, as Barry usd to say, I'd rather have inexperienced talent, than average talent with experience. So, I don't want to be unrealistic, but I do want to be positive. So, and there are a bunch of iff's here, but say Phillips makes a big jump this offseason, Wade steps in and shows to be the player everyone thinks he is, Peterson pulls his head out of his ... get's serious because it's now or never and he has so much ability, and the juco steps in this fall and is the impact player Bob says he is, well, suddenly, there's something to get excited about. Then, throw in Tapper, Onahu, Ward, Dimon, etc a very talented group, then a more experienced Striker, a more enthusiastic Nelson, and a talented secondary with Colvin, Cortez, Sanchez, etc, the very talented Freshmen, etc, coached up by Mike -- and it's a defense that may start bad, but a much more talented defense that could come into it's own by mid season.
THAT is something to be excited about.
Worst case scenario, defense is the same or worse and record is 2 more losses. Best case, defense steps up, offense revs up quickly, and the season is full of possibilities.
Screw that. I want to argue.
We will have an inexperienced O-line in 2014. And no Millard. We saw the importance of an experienced O-line in 2009 when we returned almost everyone including three eventual top-5 draft picks but lost five games due to a patchwork OL.
On defense we may return every starter except Colvin. On offense we will lose several OL starters, the aforementioned Millard, and Saunders. The loss of Clay and Williams should be easily offset by Ross and Ford. We look good for 2014 but the OL depth concerns me. Hopefully St. John and the mammoth JUCO guard from Arizona will help bridge the gap between the senior starters we will lose after next year and the young linemen in our program.
