They are the highest ranked B12 team. Guess it isn't all gloom and doom in Soonerville.

Kind of interesting not seeing USC anywhere in the top 25 if they have another year like this one we will be hearing about somebody new taking the best coaching job in the country. Of course any rankings before Oct. is a joke but its fun to see what who thinks they think this early.
1. QB- If Bell was better than Jones he would have played more. Know Bell can do a glorified QB sneak, but can he read defenses and run away versus through people? Will lose at least one or two games breaking in a new QB.
2. Linebackers-What linebackers. How far we have fallen.
3. Defensive line- Totally rebuilt and re-programed. This is a two year rebuild.
4. Receivers-Loads of talent, but see point one.
5. Offensive line. Good and will get better, but can it create Alabama-like run lanes.
6. Defensive backfield-Colvin a stud...everyone else = wait and see.
7. Running backs-Need someone to emerge and coaches wake up and use Millard more.
8. Coaching...same old same old...or new fire lit...wait and see.
We finished in the Top 20 this year with record setting QB. He is gone and that means someone else needs to produce as much as LJ. So Top 15 would be great, but that believes we will have the same or more offensive output we had this year. With new QB don't see it. Defense is a complete rebuild. I would be happy with a Top 25...we are in a two year rebuild. Need new people to step up big time.
Texas is returning 19 starters; OU only 11. I agree OU and Stoops have done the best in the conference over the past decade+, but based on returning talent and OU's absolutely glaring questions at DL and LB combined with a new starting QB, I'll take Texas to win the conference. My quick take:
1) UT, 10-15 nationally
2) OU, 15-20
3) TCU, 20-25
4) OSU, 20-25

Only 13th!!!! Another board melt down that I won't know about cause they are all on ignore. Life is sweet.
Tex will be down again. Their QB play will be in the bottom half of conference.
Very possible. But I also know they've got great talent at RB, DL, and LB and a ton of returning guys on an average OL. Far fewer question marks across the board than OU. That said, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they finish behind OU and others in the conference. Texas has been doing less with more talent for a long time now.

yeah, they return 19 starters that were demolished by OU last year
And we return only 11 of those who did the demolishing...If we had better players/talent behind them, they would have played in their stead late in the season when teams were running us up for 500+ yards and 40+ points per game.
Its not where we want to be, but #13 isn't bad considering we have a struggling defense and a newbie at qb.
IMO the Big 12 will be as wide open as it's ever been.
OU-Will be good on offense once again, but defense has to improve. Must travel to Stillwater, Waco, and Manhattan.
Texas- Still need better QB play. Defense has to improve big time. OSU, K-State, Texas Tech at home. TCU, WVU, Baylor on the road.
OSU-Will be very dangerous offensively. Defense is still a problem. OU, TCU, K-State, Baylor at home. Texas on the road.
TCU- Will be solid defensively. Offense still needs to improve. Texas, WVU, Baylor at home. OU, OSU, Texas Tech, K-State on the road.
These are in random order. This is not how I think it will finish. Just short, quick thoughts on the top four contenders. Gotta love the early preseason.

Are you saying OU isn't an "elite" program because of where we have finished the last three years? It takes more than a few years to lose that kind of status, especially when you're still finishing with 10 wins. We are an elite team based on our performance over the last decade and more importantly, over last 6 decades, IMO.
USC and Florida haven't been exactly lighting the world on fire the last few years, but I still would consider them elite programs.
This ^ made me smile and laugh a little
You are certainly entitled to your opinion and definition for what represents an elite program. I can accept and respect that as purely from a historical perspective OU has an elite football program. That, however, is not the elite program I refer to in my posts. i also think we can agree to disagree on what elite means. You can get a better understanding of my thought process on another current thread if you are so inclined. Certainly willing to debate further if you read my rationale on the other thread but if you just want to disagree to start an argument then you can have that argument with yourself. Sorry to be so direct but from your recent posts all you seem to want to do is argue for arguments sake. To me that serves no useful purpose. Boomer!

I think you are still a bit raw from the last go-around. I'm not trying to argue. Just wondering how anyone could think that OU is not an elite program, based on our performance over the last 3 or so years.
