Due to the willingness off OU to offer BV a multi-year contract along with a huge increase in pay, are the asst. coaches leveraging this as a tactic to increase their own salaries and better their terms?
I am still so very disappointed in OU for treating asst. coaches pay the way they do. Our HC has a top 5 contract monetarily and is multi-year contract, why would there be such a discrepancy in how they treat asst. coaches (below market and only one year)? OU has a lot to learn in this dept. and I hope they change their paradigm soon. Our asst. coaches are heavily responsible for our success!
Would love an update as to if there is any traction re: asst. coaches pay structure???

I think your points are well taken, and I agree with most everything you say. I think one thing to remember regarding the pay of our assistant coaches is that they are still EXTREMELY well paid and are making a pretty good living compared to better than 90% of the rest of our state's population. I also think that because they coach at the University of Oklahoma, it affords them greater opportunities to seek a bigger payday as a head coach, or even as DC with BV as an example. Leach, Mangino, Wilson, M. Stoops, Sumlin, et. al received head coaching gigs and a significant increase in their pay as a result of being an assistant coach at the University of Oklahoma. I honestly don't know what the answer is regarding this, but do agree is definitely something that needs to be addressed at some point in the near future so we can at least keep our assistants from making lateral moves to another school. I guess the benefit of offering one year contracts is that it allows the Head Coach to help an assistant seek other professional opportunities when they feel the need to cut ties. Is somewhat of a dilemma for sure.

$500k here is the equivalent of $800k on the East Coast. (That's not an exact exchange figure, but you get my point.)
I think we need at least to give our coordinators significant pay increases and multi-year contracts. If we don't, then we will have to worry every year about someone else who will. If we take care of this matter, then the only ones who leave would be going to HC jobs, which is fine. I think it's also a good idea to give the other assistants a nice raise. You have to be willing to change with the markets price of these jobs, and that is clearly changing. Moreover, I think it's pointless to say they make good money compared to the average OK resident. That's really irrelevant. Many of those who would pay more aren't in high cost-of-living jurisdictions, either.
Hook - 40% variance! You have been hitting the sauce too hard today my friend.
I am not sure where on the "East Coast" you are referring to??? The "East Coast" is a very broad term with many varying COLA. The apple to apple comparison of top programs that OU should be on par with for pay and pay structure of their asst' coaches are not in high COLA areas i.e. NY, Boston, DC. We aren't worried about Cornell, Syracuse, Conn, American University. We should be concerned with Bama, GA, FL, SC, LSU, Texas, etc. The fact is we are lagging behind in regards to our Asst. Coaches pay and pay structure and we need to fix that. The HC is VERY highly paid and I would like it to be more equitable for all that contribute to our succes.
Crimson and Cream2 - All of the top programs produce asst's that become HC, so that is not a factor. We cannot compare OU coaching pay to OK pay in general, we have to look at the coaching market..not the geographic market which has little to do with anything.
Cost of living is actually cheaper in Clemson
Alb, there is a term for the amount the "staff" makes minus HBC and we are still in top 5 in country. Look it up!
