are we going to get any new DT offers. Seems like the OL coaches got the memo and are out making a late push, while our DT coach is content with what he has. Not trying to upset anyone, just wondering if anyone knows information to the contrary. thx
Romar is coming in this weekend with an offer and already have 3 DT's commits. Only have so many ships to offer and right now they are going after prob 1 OL, 1 DT and 1 DB.
That would make sense, but the 2 prep commits have grade issues and Russell still has classes to pass and test out of JUCO. Oversigning this year is a must IMHO. Especially considering our luck the last few years with kids qualifying.
Walker is not a grade risk
I would love to get Romar!
I'd say it's the other two who are.
According to the Weekend Wrap-up we still have Justin Manning among our top five recruits. That strikes me as delusional. A&M is the team of the year - and still the team of the day - down here in Texas. They beat the clear national champion on the road. They have a dynamic head coach and the Heisman winner one of our coaches stooped to mock. They play in "the best conference in the country." They have coaches that can make adjustments at halftime. They have an established tradition of stopping OU from scoring inside the five - a tradition Manning can possibly extend.
Looking at Jackie Shipp's 2013 recruits (link will be banned), he already has commits from our three existing DTs plus Stanvon Taylor and Dominique Alexander.
His other recruits are:
DT - Maquedius Bain (Ft Lauderdale) to LSU in Dec
DT - Kenny Bigelow (Elkton, MD) to USC in Dec
DT - Ben Bradley (Hutchinson CC) to Auburn in Jan
DT - Rod Crayton (Dadeville, AL) unoffered by OU or Bama uncommitted (grades?)
DB - Marcell Harris (Orlando, FL) to FL in Nov
DT - Keontae Hollis (Cent Iowa CC) unoffered to Akron in Jan
DT - Justin Manning to A&M in December
DT - Mathew Romar (Port Arthur, TX) seems down to OU and Tulsa
DT - Hardreck Walker (Houston Westfield) to A&M in July
So he hasn't been idle. We also know he's recruited Toby Johnson (still uncommitted) long and hard. There are probably 5 or 6 DT prospects who list us among their favorites whom we have not offered.
It was my understanding that russell and the ex a&m commit were 50/50 on making the grade. So why not bring in some more players as insurance. It makes sense to me but I don't recruit or coach for a living so, my opinion at the end of the day means nothing.
He has commits from:
Russell Still has to qualify
ex a&m guy still has to qualify
Alexander Still taking visits
And a maybe from Toby Johnson who won't even be available for next season due to an injury.
So In reallity shipp has walker and taylor at this time. Nice
I am STILL amazed that they list Manning as a possible. He's made his choice. Shipp taking so long to evaulate has really hurt. Hope he gets on the trail after signing day for next season.
a lot of truth to this.... I was hoping that they get 2 more off tackles and 2 more more def tackles and yes oversign and take to more lbers... no more wide receivers!! we need at least 2 more linebackers, 2 more def tackles and at least 1 off lineman... thats my opinion!
