Not helping with the recruitment of his brother?
I'm sure he did. But I recall interviews where it was made clear he was having a more hands off approach. FWIW, he tweeted he was happy for Justin's commitment after he made the announcement yesterday.
Sometimes family members help and sometimes they want their family members to do what's best for them. As I've mentioned many times before, hiring Kevin Sumlin as head coach and A$M moving to the SEC will be have a major impact on their recruiting. OU will find it much tougher to recruit Texas.
Skip - Amen Brother....
Did anybody notice that every reason Manning gave for choosing A&M seemed to be OU's mistakes in his view?
1. I never heard him say, "I just liked A&M better."
2. I never heard him say, "I just fit in at A&M better."
3. I never heard him say, "I like OU, but I just like A&M better because it is a better fit for me."
4. I never heard him say, "A&M has a great coaching staff and I feel I will get great coaching there."
5. I never heard him say, "I am looking forward to getting a good education at at A&M."
What I DID hear Manning say was:
1. "They offered me first!"
2. "They recruited me harder!"
3. "OU waited too long to offer."
4. "I chose A&M because I wanted to make my own path and not follow by brother."
Now, if that is his criteria for picking his university, I wish him well......
What exactly did you expect Granger to do?? Force him to sign with OU or he would disown him?? Manning, having growed up around the OU program, knew everything he needed to about the program. Not much more Granger could have added. At some point he has to step aside and let his brother make his won decision.
I am one, however, that believes this is far from over. If you read one of the updates on the Rivals board and heard some of Justin's direct quotes, the door is still open for OU. He even said "Anything can happen" when asked if his decision is final. He was just extremely upset (right or wrong) from OU slow playing him with the whole offer. You would think if Stoops/Shipp could mend the fence there somehow, that they might be able to win him back. I mean it's the perfect situaiton for him. He knows the coaches, loves the school, and we need him more than A&M...and it's not even close. This isn't over until signing day.
OU doesn't offer until grades are in order.I've read whhere they offered him as a junior ,thats soon enough. Sounds like a bit of a baby.
Totally agree. Programs offer 1-3 DTs a year and a kid gets his feelings hurt because OU wasn't "first".
At this point I choose door number 4. Maybe he did not want to go to OU due to the most likely comparisons with Demarcus that would have followed. Unlike Evans and Sheppard, (legacy) their family members played in the 80's. Comparisons not as likely as Demarcus who played just several years ago. Just saying......thoughts?
We could have offered this guy when he was a junior or earlier if we are so eaten up with him. Maybe it is just an excuse from him but if that is really the reason why he is going to Aggieville, then we should have offered earlier.
Agree. Though I will be a little surprised if he chooses OU over A&M because he waited so long to make the decision delaying and delaying. If he would've made it earlier, I think there would have been more room to speculate that he didn't thoroughly think things through. However, the fact that he seems to want to go to A&M and yet was torn, possibly because of his brother, our sticking with Granger through difficult times and family like exposure to OU, this all might actually work to OU's benefit on actual signing day.

Latu... Metoyer.... Smoke... Gardner.... Shall I go on? Because I can.
This is getting to be old, "do what's best for them"?? There is not many things diffrent for a big ole boy playing for any school that competes for NC most years!!! The best for most of them is which school is going to give them the most passing grades to stay in school!!!!
Say what you mean, mean what you say!!!
Has anyone tried to get Jackie out from under that bus?
