Underrated007, I have enjoyed your post. Wish you had not brought race into this. I may not know near as much as you, but have seen nothing that would lead me to believe it is a factor at this school with this coach in this situation . . . just my opinion
Call me simple minded but this makes little sense to me. This is college football. Last time I checked running and passing were both part of the game. And for most of the dominant programs that includes the QB running. The object each year is to maximize the potential of each player. If Bell is so dynamic in power running and standard passing, what makes you think the coaches won't capitalize on those advantages? Just like switching to the I with AD.
So you're basically saying that there are elite running o-linemen and there are elite passing o-linemen but there are not both? So that means we should never be recruiting the same guys as Bama?
I'm not buying it.
I think it's simply what the coaches decide to practice. You get better at what you practice. Is Lane Johnson going to be a terrible run blocker in the pros?
This is exactly what I said a few weeks ago. We will never have an offense that looks like atm or oregon as long as JH is at the wheel.
And that sucks.
College football is about innovation and out scheming the competition. The Big XII has caught up with OU thus removing the advantage. Time to change.
Here's what I'm saying. The strength of OU's offensive line is pass blocking. As far as run blocking, lets be honest, against the better teams they played, they were inconsistent running the ball. The mentality of this group isn't mean and nasty. Maybe Bedenbaugh changes that, but it's hard for me to see them just dominating another "quality" defensive line group next year.

I don't think it is either at this school, nor do I think so with regards to Coach Stoops which is why I am the one defending against tha when it comes up. But the truth of the matter is that is exactly what I hear all the time from people of that race when I'm engaged in conversation about Qb's at OU under Stoops. My post was more so aimed that the media outlets that have thus far reported on it & how they have chosen to do so. You have to admit, there has been some lopsided reporting done up to this point.
I agree, but that was in the past & mostly under Barry Switzer. As one individual pointed out to me & said, you have to recruit them first & challenge me to go back & look at how many they have seriously recruited & offered. I haven't done so, but I have to say, that he did leave me scratching my head trying really think about that other than the obvious with Paul Thompson & now Kendal Thompson.

We need to score everytime the offense is on the field, especially until the defense can prove that they can stop other teams from scoring. The biggest change I want to see from the O this year vs. the previous 2-3 years, is that they can get the tough yards and run the ball better overall, as to help open up the the passing game and take more pressure of the QB. I think Bell will take a lot more to go down in the pocket as compared to Jones. We have a great receiving corp that should make it easy to find targets for Bell or whoever gets the starting job. As much as I'd like to see Knight, I don't think that we're in that desperate of a situation to reach that far. The defense will be a HUGE key to how the offense plays this year. If they can stop people, then we can run some clock. But if it's shades of the past several years, then we'll need to pass, pass and pass some more. I do however have a gut feeling that these new coaching changes will have sparked a new found flame that will only burn brighter as the season wears on. I can't wait for the season to start. A lot of teams missed on RGIII. Who else should we have went after? We did want Cam Newton, but we changed our mind and it wasn't because we realized he was black.
We've been pretty good at QB since 07, and we had a Heisman winner QB from 01-04. between 04 and 06 we had a black QB.
Where is there support for the race argument?
I personally don't have a race argument however one was being made to me. I am one that has been fine with the Qb's we have had under Stoops & there isn't really much room for complaining with the eventual starter, including Landry Jones of late.
So I really don't think you are hearing me, my only issue is how media outlets & individuals who seem to be over hyping this QB race into a showdown between only BB & TK. Heck, the guy from the daily oklahoman doesn't even have KT listed on his projected 2013 depth chart. To me, that is bias reporting & media not given the public the complete picture.
You need to listen to more of a variety of media outlets, because you are wrong.
Toby - Bell, TK, KT
James - says all is open and obviously favors KT.
BBJ - favors KT
Al - favors KT
Now most of the print guys are going with Bell. But that is what is the obvious choice if you go by Stoops history. He goes with the experienced guy. He also has gone with the best pocket passer.
Regarding recruiting "Black" QB's, we recruit and offer the top passing QB's. It's not about race, it's about who the top ranked throwers have been. How many of the Elite 11 QB's have been Black? I honestly don't know, but the pics I've seen tend to primarily be White. We did want Cam Newton, We did want the kid that went to texas, we wanted Vince Young. This is a bogus claim.
I lose all respect for anyone who throws out the race card in a disagreement.

The "media" and it's bias will always be there no matter what. It isn't fair and it sure isn't balanced. But, the silver lining is that the "media" doesn't choose the QB, or any other player postion, in the end. Don't worry about hypothetical depth charts put out but people who have no clue. Heck, practices and workouts are closed, and no one besides this staff really has any idea of how these guys are actually doing. The position will be earned on the field this spring and summer regardless of what the "media" reports. Good luck to all the players!
