The Texas D is exploitable, but Josh needs to come up with a plan for their very aggressive front 4 and blitz twists. Speed, misdirection?
RUN the ball. Both Okie St and West Va RBs had career days against the horn defense.
Damien Williams needs to get a lot of carries, and we should work the left side. OSU and WVU both broke a lot of runs to the left against Texass.
Williams and Millard carrying the ball should be effective, but we need to go under center more and run out of the I and single back more. The little gimmicky run game out of the pistol is to predictable and only really ever effective when the QB is a run threat and Landry is not.
"With Nebraska trying to leave, we felt like we needed to send them out with a loss, and we did." -Ryan Broyles-
Millard getting a few touches is great and takes some focus away from Williams.
I would love to see Roy get a few touches. He just adds another dimension.
It looked to me that most of the big gaines were run inside the DE's. I will bet that UT learned alot with the scheme WV used last night.
Say what you mean, mean what you say!!!
OSU did the same thing to Texas. Either Texas are slow learners or they have bigger issues on defense.
Buie is an amazing back with speed and moves that we don't possess in our arsenal. However, we have some playmakers.
Texas has some serious talent and some prime time playmakers. It should be a great game.
I would have loved to have seen Finch some more in the 4th. I felt like when the game was out of reach, we should have been running it every down with Bell at the helm...including some option.
I'm hoping we use our tight ends early in the game. I think the more looks we throw at Texas the better. Our run game is definatey important but any new plays out of all formations will cause Diaz problems.
Finch has speed and moves. why he's not playing is beyond me. When whaley's running the ball i dont see him making the cuts he made last year, if he's tentative running the ball on that ankle then let finch share some snaps with d.williams and millard.
Wish we could see some of the diamond formation used last year. It seemed to work well. Kinda like the wishbone, it kept the defense guessing.
Run at Jeffcoat. Okafor is a more complete DE, but you can whip Jeffcoat in the run game. I hope Heupul has a good gameplan cooked up. They will blitz a lot up the middle since the LBs cant cover the pass. That said, I am ready to see what Mike Stoops does aginst this improved texas offense. I honestly dont think they have seen a good defense. Our defense has given up exactly 6 TD in 4 games. Thats not a bad stat at all. If our DL can fire off the ball and hold its ground, I think we can cover them pretty good. texas is going to run Ash more though.
There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a man with nothing to lose.
Jeffcoat can get frustrated easily. See the game 2 years ago. I agree with the run game and the more things we can throw at Texas-the better. On defense-we better be ready to play! Ash is nowhere near the same scared freshman he was last year. And their running game is superb.
No, the running game isnt superb. Thats a fallacy. They just stick with it regardless. We should be able to whip them up front if we play hard. osu and wvu did it and texas countered with screens and jet sweeps.
jeffcoat isnt the whorns weakness. Its the LB. Their starter is out and they are playing the 2nd team guy
