Been hearing this is a possibility. Any truth to this? Young only has one or two years of coaching experience at Florida but his NFL playing experience is more than substantial. He was named to the all-decade team for the 1990's. I think it would be a great hire.
Anyone else hearing anything about him? I have to say I feel absolutely no excitement about the guy from AZ and CU. How would he be considered an upgrade? I'm just not seeing it.

This would be an awesome hire! I have read Muschamp isnt great to work for. However, as much as I love Oklahoma, Florida isn't a terrible place to live.
You've been hearing? From where?

It would be a homerun hire!!!Good gracious I would be on cloud 9 if we land him. Booooomer!
He is making 230k per year at UF. Looks like JS was making ~260k per year so we could make this happen.

UF just hired Dan Quinn as the DC - DL coach to be his boss. Dan was his position coach in the NFL.
Strange to see someone hired to do the same job.

He only has two years as a coach.
Why is that a homerun?
NFL pedigree, African American, SEC experience, connections from time in league. His DL looked pretty good to me last year. If you are a 15-18 yr old kid and in walks 4x pro bowler, rookie of year, and Super Bowl champ Bryant Young I feel that will put us at an automatic advantage. As Switzer says, "It's not the X's and O's it's the jimmy and joes."
Agree 100% smitty!!!!! This would appear to be a homerun. I don't see it happening, but would be a great choice!
OU is one of the cheapest playing universities for assistant coaches... open up the wallet and pay him 300K get him over to Norman. OU is Historically a better program.
I'm hell when I'm well.. And, I am never sick!
Agree. Chris Wilson is a homerun. This guy is more like a double with a possibility to steal third.
Nothing against Chris, but he has been here before.
Guess Mike better pack his bags.

If Bryant Young is a double, then Tuiasosopo is an intentional walk.
My point is that, while he is a great guy. He wasn't an aggressive recruiter. He doesn't have that dynamic sales personality, and yes I have met him. He and his wife worked out at my gym. A lot of my info came from her and coach wilson's wives. It's been a few years and maybe he has improved in that area.
Let's not get too much out there on a limb with Chris Wilson. Remember he was here for a few years so Stoops knows his ability. Not all former OU players make "Great" coaches or recuriters.

What coach doesn't make 300k at OU?
I looked up OU Assistant Coach salaries, and the answer to your question is several. Now, it's not a lot under 300,000, but several assistants were under that number.
Now, the only thing I could find in my very lazy, quick research was 2011 salary levels. So, I didn't see Mike Stoops salary; however, Im quite confident it is way over 300,000. Both co offensive coordinators make over 300 (330,000), but every other assistant made under 300 k, including James Patton and Jackie Shipp.
This surprised me a bit. It appears we have a bit of room for increase with regard to assistant salaries.
Only Heupel, Norvell and Mike make more than 300k. All of the others are in the 200's. OU is generally 50k behind the other big programs at each position. However, the new oline coach is making a very competitive salary and I think it's safe to say they are now planning to pay what it takes to get the guys they want. Which is fantastic news.

Guess the sarcasm escaped someone. Obviously, Mike was here before so that did not prevent us from bringing him back.
Chris Wilson being a home run is laughable, he was a decent recruiter but he was less than mediocre as a coach, there's a reason he's gone.
