Oline:. Very comparable. Quarterback: very comparable (wait and see!) Running back: better depth, just as talented, save Murray who missed NC game. WR: 2012 no comparison ! TE: Blake Bell could make this a wash! There, someone said it! Defense: a wash

Apples and oranges
We don't have a proven left tackle (Loadholt). We had 3rd overall pick T Williams and Duke on that line.
We don't have a all around RB like Murray.
Our LB has no Box, Reynolds or Lewis.
Not sure about our secondary this year....Could be amazing or could have one guy busting all the time.
Broyles (best ever) gone...Iglesias, Johnson.
Jones isn't quite a Bradford
No way it's a wash with TE...We had Gresham in 08...no one will compare to him.
Oline...guards and center will be very good. Our WR COULD be great, but they are oh so young.
To me there are still way too many question on this team to put them in the same sentence as the 08 group.

At this point, there is no reason to believe that it's even close to the 2008 team.
Fairly optimistic assessment. The area I'd have to disagree most is TE. Nobody on the current OU roster can hold Jermaine Gresham's jockstrap at TE. After that, I'd have to go with OL as an area I disagree. Our 2008 team had TWO 1,000 yard rushers on it. We ran the ball very well. This OL has a LONG way to go to get to that level.
All due respect, but you're crazy.
Who on our current OLine would have even made the '08 team, much less started? Remember: Many of our current OLine kids were players that have yet to 'pan out' and, frankly, many of them were mis-evaluated.
Jones may be fantastic in his final year, but what level of growth have you seen over the previous three years to show that he is a clear Heisman finalist before the season starts, let alone winner?
Defense? A Wash? The defense I saw at every game last year would struggle to do the laundry of that '08 team.
What the hell are you smoking bro? Geez.
I could rip every comparison you made to shreds but I don't want to waste the time.
This comment and replies should hopefully show people that we probably don't have a NC caliber team this coming year. They will be very good and will definitely be a favorite to win the B12...but NC caliber??? I think not. Who knows...they could develop into one though. With some luck, it could happen.
Too small. Cant run downhill. If we could run the ball, we would have beaten Baylor and Tech.
There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a man with nothing to lose.
I am telling you right now! Damien Williams will be a star at running back this year. He along with Clay will provide a twosome that will be the best in the BIG 12. We will also be much better at all positions on offense and on defense as well. If OUr players have their heads on correctly, we should win the national championship going away.
Here is a serious question for you, JRAM. Who is the best modern day running back in the history of college football?
I will give you that player as well as every other player on the OU team from 2011 EXCEPT Broyles and I would bet my house that the RB you picked doesn't break 1200 yards on the entire season.
That is how weak last year's OLine was at run blocking.
Well Nich, after the FSU game, we really didnt try to run at anyone else. We went really soft and ran mostly out of the pistol and gun. Now, the reason I dont like that is that running from the gun, while effective, is much better when the QB is a threat to run. Jones is no threat to run on a consistent basis. We need to run our offense from under center more. The OL is capable, but it takes patience to run the ball.
One of the things Jones talked about when coming back was having him under center more. I think we will see more of that this year, with about 20% more I-Formation and offset I-Formation plays being run. This would send a clear message to our O-Line that there will be more of an emphasis on that aspect of the game, and that they are/will be the ones to dictate how effective the run game is going to turn out.

I agree this team is good as it stands right now, but not as good as the 2008 squad. The X factor this year are the newcomers, ie. Juco guys. Damien Williams, Courtney Gardner, Chaz Nelson, Kaz Everett, Brannon Green, Trey Metoyer, etc. and some of the RS Freshman and True Freshman types. And always, injuries. If these guys pan out like expected, this team could be great by the end of the year.

That 2008 defense was one of the worst defenses of the Stoops era. They were horrible! They put together a few good games but they were thrashed all year. Texas put up 45 on that defense.
Dom had no problem running behind that line. Finch can't see a hole and Clay was injured.
What is your point? The '08 defense wasn't "all that" and I agree with you. And since the '08 defense that wasn't "all that" could SMOKE the '11 defense, that just goes to show you how BAD the '11 defense was.
Any other questions?
