I just watched the replay of the A&M/Bama game and Bama gave the game away... two key turnovers, and a botched 4th down play. Moreover, Johnny had some very lucky breaks. A&M struck quick to get up 20 and Bama made adjustments and should have won.. With being said, I think OU has a good chance to win this game if LJ plays well and the defense can spy and contain Johnny...
I'm hell when I'm well.. And, I am never sick!
Should be one of the best bowl game match ups. The mobile QB and his unorthadox play is a concern but I think it could also lead to some mistakes by the aTm Offense. If OU is mistake free (no turn overs and few penalties) they should win the game. Over all OU has more speed and better athletes on both sides of the ball (not at all positions but over all). I think Landry could have a big day. Sure it could go either way but this is one I'd put my $$ on OU vice aTm.
Yes, Skip, but they run a spread too. And run the ball less than OU does. Plus, their qb will be fat and happy with heisman parties and appearances. Smart, disciplined defense will be the difference. I wouldn't be surprised to see 3 defensive ends in OUr front four for this one. With that said, which OU team shows up, that's the question. This game, unfortunately, is at a huge moment for this program. texas recruiting is drifting to atm and baylor, tcu, etc. OU loses this one, it's going to be a rough ride in texas for the next few. They win it, and it could stop that tide.
i think they're a little better on offense, a little worse on defense. the biggest thing is they're learning how to close.
Oh well hell just go ahead and say we will need to time travel to win the game. From what I've seen this year we have as good a shot of the time travel as what you wrote!! I think our only chance is to win like we did at wv. We are going to have win in a shoot out!

Relax fellas, itll be a good game, but you wont be on the edge of your seat like you were aginat WV, OSU or TCU. 38-24 range, OU wins
I'm not gonna say it can't happen, but the only two times we've been held below 24 points was against the #3 and #11 (Florida and LSU) defenses in points scored. We put up more than 24 against the second best defense (Alabama). If you can keep us under 24, there's a great chance you win. I don't think that will happen, though.
I know the stats are skewed with OU defense playing against better offenses. Our offensive numbers might be even better against worse defenses.

The true test of a man's intelligence is how much he agrees with you.
we will win this game.........mark it down
i'm more worried about our lackluster recruiting . just no excuse . no spin please
I just remember all the brains on this board saying A@Ms move wouldnt get them anywhere, and talking from on high what a mistake they were making. Now the real game begins ...recruiting texas will be much tougher now...
A&M had 4 starters on Defense that didn't play vs La Tech, 3 were in the secondary.
Was their D-line and backers out as well?
At first I thought this was not a good match up, because of having missed out on a BCS bowl. But it now looks like this is going to be the best bowl game outside of the NC game. I think there are only two bowls left after OU takes on A&M. It is the only game on TV that day so the entire nation will be watching. Everyone will be wondering how well the B12 Champs will stand up to the perceived tougher conference(sec) team. It will be a great time for the B12 to make a statement about how they stackup against the SEC. Also OU will be going up against the latest Heisman trophy winner.
Considering all this, I think OU has a tremendous amount of motivation. An OU loss will really be bad for us, but an OU win would pay tremendous dividends. A national audience viewing an OU win would help boost OU up in the final poll. An OU win would most certainly involve a great game by Landry Jones, sending him out with a great finish to his career. It is in Dallas Tx, the heart of our most productive recruiting area. That would obviously help recruiting just before signing day. An OU win could help seal the deal on several recruits and possibly reverse a previous decision by other recruits that had gone against us. I think Mike Stoop will do everything possible not to get embarrassed defensively on national TV. He got fired as Arizona's HC, so an OU Cotton Bowl win would help restore his national creditability. It's not like we have to stop a complete offense, just keep one freshman in check. Our beat up offensive line did as good a job of protecting LJ as anyone could have asked for over the last several games. With a month to heal up, they should be even better. According to Las Vegas we are the underdog and we are playing against this year's Heisman winner. In 2000, that same motivation played out well for us. Yes it looks like a good matchup and I like our chances.
I think this game comes down to whether or not A&M can run the ball (Lead the SEC in Rushing and Manziel is the individual rushing leader) AND if we can slow down OU's passing game. Also it's going to be interesting to see if either offense gets off to a slow start because of the time off since the last game.
I havent watched OU as much this year but it looks like their strength is against the pass and not as much against the run. It reminds me a lot of Miss State's defense this year and we did well against them, by running the ball well first and then passing off of it.
The last 4-5 games, we've started fast and built big leads- this has helped out our pass rush and pass defense because it's made teams have to get away from the run earlier than they wanted to.
Starting fast has been big for us down the stretch. We'll see if we come out rusty.
Aub- we were 42-7 at half
Miss State- 38-0 at half
Alabama- 20-0 before they scored
Sam Houston-42-0 in the 3rd before they scored
Missourri- 42-7 at half
Should be a great game either way. Toss up as to who wins IMO.
Missing one of our starting LB's (our best coverage LB), our starting safety, and our top corner back... They are a passing team and are #2 in the nation in total offense.
We actually seemed to let off the gas peddle in this game. We got up 28-0 before they scored and went on cruise control. Had a number of chances to put it away but just didnt do it. Aside from that game, our defense has not give up more than 29 points in any other game this season. Having said that, OU will be the top offense we've seen along with La Tech.
That's something the other team has to deal with as well. That's why in most cases the bowl games are lower scoring than the regular season.
LA Tech is a passing team and it was 5 and 1/2 hour game. Check the score in the beginning of the game. I hope the OU coaches plan off this game.

How soon you forget, we play against them offenses every week and when you do (like you all did last year) your DB's are rotated in and out giving them all valuable time, we have 6-7 DB' that could be considered starters, recon y'all did last year as well.
This thread is basically dead, but many more will emerge on the same subject with varied approaches. All that SKIP has said is true and correct, explaining all the possibilities. Look at two more passed played difficulties when answering in the future. 1. Who covers the middle, which has been barren in a lot of games with the nickel or dime package in use. Atm has a good OL vs our DL to open some gappers up the middle for 15 to 20 plus yards. One step off and your going to miss their speedy QB. 2. Who going to make sure LJ has a star game, He has started cold in several games. He tends to throw behind the receiver. This one may be over before he is warmed up. Look, I'm not trying to be a pessimist on the subject but we need to prepare for this game in advance. Just like the military, every snap and resolution from whistle to whistle. Thanks to Charlie Beard, I have been a Sooner Fan since the Texas game 1971, so I'm as solid as you can get, but need my doubts addressed.
I hear the concerns and share them some what but I look at this game like this, about the same game as K-state, basically same QB but not as good on defense and now that the offense has jelled I do not see three turnovers giving the game away and their D may be lulled to sleep somewhat by some of the offenses they played in the SEC, example would be La-Tech caught them off guard and not having some of their DB's starting would not have made that much of a difference. I think OUr guys will be healthy and up for the game and do not buy into the lesser bowl let down from years past.
Honestly, I am not concerned. If Saunder doesnt play, then that hurts us a great deal. I like our chances though.
There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a man with nothing to lose.
A lot of give-up in this post. Grow a pair and have a little confidence.
There offensive line is a year older and Manziel makes more plays than Tannehill did last year. The d is probably a little better but it may just be the SEC teams don't play as well offensively nor as fast so less points are scored.
True. And our LB's as well especially the LB who will be spying on their QB.
I guess it doesn't matter, on January 4th we will see. OU has a great team, will see where we stack up vs Big 12 since OU is co-Big 12 champion.
