Collectively, the NBA players are dumber than a bag of hammers

  • I understand that the owners aren't perfect angels in this deal, but the NBA players are a bunch of damn spoiled brats. They make more on the average than any other professional athletes. Besides that, they get paid millions of dollars to play a freaking game. And now they are boo-hooing because the owners make more money than they do? Hey geniuses, that's the way it works in the real world. The people who bear the most risk reap the most reward. The funny part about this is that the owners will just move on and make their money elsewhere while the players will sit back and watch the NBA go the way of the NHL. The NBA is not the NFL. Missing an entire season will be detrimental to the league, especially considering the popularity of college basketball. It's looking like these spoiled babies are going to cut their noses off to spite their faces.

  • I agree the players (collectively) are making really bad decisons, especially today's announcement to abandon the Collective Bargaining process and move to decertify their union. Not smart!

However, I do think the NBA is as strong as ever and will survive and thrive even if they miss this entire season.

Sure, it'll survive...so the NHL comparison was a bit of an exaggeration. I still think it will be immensely hurt, though. Take me, for instance. If there was a Thunder game on last year, I would watch it. I watched every playoff game that I could. I went to some games when tickets were offered. But I'm not going to miss it a bit...and I'm that much less likely to help put money in these guys' pockets after this fiasco. I like the NBA but it's not like college football or the NFL...I'll do just fine without it, thanks.

  • Psychologically it is very to give up something you already have. The players are being asked to give a lot of benefits. The current revenue split is 57%-43% for the players and the owners are asking for a 50-50 split. Each 1% is 100 million dollars, so the players are being asked to give up 700 million. What would you do?
I'm not "for" either side but I don't have much sympathy for the owners. The players aren't doing themselves any pr favors by their behavior, either.

Agreed, I also think that the players should split their endorsement money with the owners if fair is fair. Traber said in a debate with a caller that you can find another electrician but pro athletes cannot be replaced and have a legit claim to the money, I say bull crap! Keep the greedy over paid spoiled brats locked out and reload with high school, (change draft rules regarding this) college and semi pro players until the talent level gets back to the norm. Bust the union!

  • Heck I'd be a bargain at about $800 a game to go Jack up 3 pointers and play no defense.

Yeah, three games a week and a few endorsements and I could maintain my lifestyle.lol and put money in the bank!

  • I don't think it matters, even if there isn't a season this year, I'm still going to start watching it again once the resume. It's just that some folks are going to lose some money. Doesn't affect me in the least bit. I'll watch it when it's on.

  • They are the 99%?

  • i think they're all babies. i personally don't have a problem with one over the other. 400 or so players wanting half versus 30 owners wanting half doesn't sound crazy. the individual owners get 10-15 times as much as the players because they take on the risk, but owners of professional sports teams have a long and well-documented history of jacking with players. they earned every bit of the unions they now have to deal with.

  • I could personally care less if they play or not. Less time on TV cutting into NFL and college football, college basketball, and MLB baseball, all of which I enjoy.

  • Well, when you can jump ship to the NBA after one semester of college....skip all your classes in the spring....what do you expect.

  • Billionaires fighting millionaires. Hard to work up sympathy for either side. I can get by without the NBA this season, and I say that as a Mavs fan whose team gets to be reigning world champions for a while longer.

    Agree 100%.

  • The players are stupid. No matter how much more they make 95% of them will be broke 2 years after leaving the NBA.

    They are both greedy.

Owners = smart guys with money
    Players = idiots with money

Then all the players should pool their money and start franchises if it's that easy. You have the "players" most of which have no clue how to balance a checkbook VS. the owners. Players lose!!

If the players were smart they would demand that 75% of their salary was put into individual trust accounts, allowed to draw interest and be paid out to them until they are 65. That way they are not at their moms house and can pay child support!!!

  • Maybe folks will decide to return to their roots and roll out to the LNC. The team could use the support. Hope to see y'all there.

  • I could care less, I haven't watched a NBA game in years except for 5 to 10 mins of the championship series. NBA lost me along time ago, They could all go over seas and play and it wouldn't bother me a bit.

    This.

  • I gave up on the NBA during their last strike...when Allen Iverson told a kid on live tv to "get lost" and told people he needed more money because he had "mouths to feed"...

I had a little interest with the Thunder based I suppose on local pride ....but I'm finished with all of them now.
Most peple here are happy with 50K a year...They make millions and whine? To play a game? I won't be supporting it.

I'd watch college football 365 if I could....and hope Lon K. gets our program back on track...that will be my hoops team.
